        What are some brands, other than Oxbow, that produce quality hay?

        My girls have only ever eaten Oxbow hay, but now that there’s two of them, I’d like to keep a larger supply without breaking the bank. I find Oxbow isn’t necessarily cost effective, maybe that’s just me.

        Where do you folks get your hay from, is it reliably stocked (online or in-store), and what’s the cost? Lastly, any hay must be available to a Canadian such as myself.

          I’m not sure of availability in Canada (I’m a Brit!) But I use Alfalfa King Timothy Hay – it costs £9 for 1.8kg so it certainly isn’t the cheapest but I think it’s cheaper than Oxbow. My buns absolutely love this stuff. I originally gave them Pets at Home brand of hay which they liked but since trying the AK, they are spoilt now :p It’s really green and has a lot of long stems and the flowery heads which my buns love the most. I tried them on Meadow Hay that I got from a farm shop and they literally turned their noses up to it lol. I think I get through a bag of hay every 2 weeks but I must admit I’m very wasteful so I really need to stop that! I get my hay from Pets at Home (big pet store over here, they have it online too) They also sell it on thehayexperts.co.uk which I’ve ordered from before.

            If I bought bagged hay from a pet store, I probably wouldn’t be able to afford to keep my bunnies I buy hay by the bale from a feed store. I pay about $12 for hay that lasts me around 3 months. So very cost effective. Although I know that not everyone has the means to store a bale, but it’s something to look into if you do.

              If I had the space to store I’d do this!

                Besides Oxbow, I feed my bunnies American Pet Diner Hay, usually the Timothy Gold, which is the softer, second cutting, but I also have bought their high fiber timothy. Their small bags (24 oz/680 g) are $5.99. They sell it at Petco, but I usually get it online at Drs. Foster and Smith. At Drs. Foster, they also sell a bigger bag of it, 5 pounds, for $12.99. It is sometimes on sale. I know that they ship to Canada, but I don’t think that hay is one of the items they ship there.

                  Nope! Oxbow is ridiculously expensive. I spend a fortune on it!! I’m also Canadian and have yet to find another quality brand. And my buns won’t eat the hay from horse barns that I could get super cheap…….buggers…All the American hay options are just way too expensive to ship.

                    My rabbits really like KMS 3rd cut hay. I believe they ship to Canada. There shipping is very expensive but it evens out with the hay prices.

                      @ LittlePuffyTail
                      I don’t really have any space to store a bale of hay, so I’m kinda hesitant to go pestering my local horse barns. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks Oxbow is a bit ridiculously priced! If I manage to find a brand, I’ll try to remember to message you.

                      @ergodic
                      I checked out their site and I’ll see if they can give me a quote for shipping, and if I can get the hay sent to Canada. Thanks for the suggestion!

                        Besides Oxbow, Kaytee is alright. Smallpetselect is definitely a top one as well.
