Has anyone else had experience with their house rabbits exhibiting protective behavior? My Wednesday is usually fairly curious about house guests and friendly toward them. She keeps her distance at first but before long every guest’s feet get a sniff and she stays long enough to receive a little pet. But I’m recovering at home after hip surgery and each time a nurse or physical therapist comes to the home she immediately starts investigating whatever bag they brought and hops around under the chair they are sitting in. You have to take my word for it when I say this but Wednesday is definitely getting “up in their business” as the kids say. She’s seems to be telling the visitor that I am being guarded. And that’s another thing. She’s started flopping near my rented recliner. I have this chair for my recovery in the middle of the room and when Wednesday is loose in the living room (which is often and for an hour or two at a time most days) she has started flopping or at least squatting either at my feet or on one side of the recliner close enough that it’s obvious she’s watching over me like a cat or dog does when you are ill. Often she is close enough that I can pet her and she can lick me. I swear she knows I’m lame and in need of care and protection. I had friends come over to watch a movie and even before they sat down Wednesday was clawing at her habitat door frantically to be let out…I think to make sure I was safe. Is this common? Are my wife and I imaging this?

Some buns definitely are My Blue is very protective of all of us (me, my boyfriend, our other two bunnies). When bonding, if the other two buns tried to start a scuffle, Blue would break it up and sit on them to force cuddles. If my boyfriend is playfully being mean to me (soft arm punches), Blue will dash over and sniff us both and investigate both of us to make sure nothing was actually happening. Our Bombur doesnt like to be held, but of course we have to check him over, groom him, and such, but often while trying he will kick or bite and if Blue notices, he will run over and check out whoever was bitten, then check over Bombur to make sure he is ok too. I nicknamed him Mama Blue because hes like a little mama bear to us all
