        Hello everyone,

Have been worried about my little one for some time now. He is one of the smallest fully grown minilops I’ve owned but he usually looks and feels more plump than these days.

He loves to explore around the house when I give him runs, so he is very active when he has space to move.

When I pat him I can feel his bones on his back jut out quite a bit.

He loves to eat spinach and parsley and I give that to him about 3 times a week. Plus his other food (vetafarm) and daily water.

One thing I have noticed is that he is crazy for water. He drinks twice as much as my other rabbit and is always desperate for a drink.

So was wondering if anyone had any experience with rabbits loosing weight or if you knew of an underlying problem that could be related to the excessive amounts of water he drinks.

        Thankyou.

It kind of sounds like a parasite. How long has this weight and water intake been an issue? How is his hay intake?

How old is he? The only time my bunnies have lost thatmuch noticeable weight is when they are sick. I woudl get him to the vet. My little lop drinks 3 cups of water a day, but he has always drank that much, and his kidneys have tested fine. When their intake suddenly changes (increases or decreases), it is cause for concern. Same thing with weight loss. Cause for concern. I’d have him checked out.

              Thankyou for your replies.

He was born in 2012 so about 4-5 years.

He refuses to eat hay unless it is the chaff bits.

Yeah I think vet soon, he got checked for parasites recently though.

I had one bunny who was very young and had FTT but the current one has been weaned properly.

              Lou

Does he urinate more? (excessive drinking and urinating could be a kidney-related issue)
Has there been a change in the temperature of his area? (cold prompts increased fluid intake)
Is he waiting less greens and more pellets? (more dry pellets = more need for water. More greens = less need for water).

yeah his hutch is always more wet than my other rabbit, he pees a lot.

He isnt looking too bad today apart from the heat here in Perth…

If he gets any thinner he’s going to have to have a trip to the vets.

Thankyou! I’m thinking maybe a parasite could be the most plausible cos he’s eating lots

You said his hutch is always more wet… Does he pee in or outside his litterbox?

I think you should take him to a vet now. If it is a parasite problem, then waiting for him to lose more weight isn’t going to help his recovery.

\I agree with Sarahthegemini. His symptoms don’t sound good. I’m no vet, but it sounds to me like kidney/bladder illness, or E,C, I’d get im to the vet.
