Pipin is about 6 months old. His poop/pee recently started stinking REALLY BAD! My mom wont even let me keep him in the house anymore because of it, so he’s in the garage.  I really want him to be in the house so I want to solve this. He’s not neutered. I do his litter box everyday, and sometimes spray it with with pet deoderizer spray. Nothing seems to help. He does really good at pooping and peeing in his litter box, but sometimes pees around the cage. I also had my rabbits cages stacked recently (they’re both the same size of dog crate) and he was trying to pee on BunBun’s blankets on top of her cage. Do you know why he’s doing this? Is there anything I can do to stop the smell?

unaltered boy buns can be whiffy, a kind of oniony smell. Getting him neutered is the only way to stop the smell, as far as I know

Neuter is your best bet. It’s likely territorial and hormonal smells that’s stinking it up, which was the case with our female bun.

Yes, an intact bun of that age, also around a female is going to have a lot of hormone affecting the smell of the pee. He might be spraying also and you haven’t spotted where the pee is.

If you do get him neutered, be sure not to let him near your female is she is not desexed. A newly neutered rabbit can still impregnate an intact female rabbit for a month or two after the castration.

Thanks everyone! I hope to get him neutered within a few weeks. I just have one more question, would I have to neuter the female also to bond them? Or just the boy?

Extremely unlikely that you would be able to bond with an intact female. Female buns can be super territorial and aggressive. Your best bet for a good bond and to avoid possible serious injuries are to fix both buns and wait at least a month for hormones to die down before starting any bonding.

My little boy buns wee has just started to be a bit stinky. I thought perhaps my sense of smell had just improved (well not really ‘improved’ in this case but my nose has been more sensitive!) He is just over 3 months old though so it could very well be his hormones. He’ll be neutered 14th December though!

I don’t have a lot of money to spend on neutering,(I’m a kid) so after I neuter the boy I will have my mom help me with trying to bond them a few months after he is neutered and if it doesn’t work out I’ll just have to have them live separate. Hope it works out! Do you have any bonding tips for me?

Another thing to keep in mind is, female buns also have an 80% of developing cancer in their later lives. So even if you don’t bond her with your boy, she’ll have a shorter lifespan unless she’s spayed at some point.
