I have a bonded pair of male rabbits (both neutered a while back). They had near perfect litter habits with me finding occasional poop outside their cage once in a while. I moved to a studio apartment a month ago and they free roam the space 24/7 with the exclusion of the bathroom and kitchen area. I’m getting pretty frustrated that they’re leaving clusters of droppings everywhere! They always go back to urinate in the litter box but don’t seem to care where they poop anymore. I’m having to vacuum daily and even then I randomly step on them all the time. What can I do?

Try confining them a bit more, they could simply be trying to make the place a bit more ‘homey’ for themselves by marking out their territory

Did they have immediate freedom to the entire new apartment? Their space should be restricted and then increased bit by bit.
They are also saying, this is mine, and possibly reasserting their dominance…..

That makes sense.. except my “entire apartment” aside from the kitchen and bathroom area is one room. I blocked them from accessing under the bed, but I can’t really block anything else. For New York standards it’s comfortable but it’s by no means a huge place. Do you think they’ll settle down after a while or their litter habits just went crazy permanently?

Do you have any way of constructig just a temporary pen until litter habits resume?

I could (and might have to!). I guess I’ll give them one more week to settle down before I resort to that I like them to have their run of the place since everything is bunny proofed. Also, one of them really hates being confined, he starts biting at the cage bars which led to a chipped tooth before!
