My bun was previously a free roam bun but now I contain him due to pee/poop everywhere. He’s now in a X-pen overnight and whenever I’m not home.

He’s peeing outside of his litter boxin his x-pen frequently and I’m just frustrated with the clean up and ruining of his area. I have a runner in his xpen and it’s getting saturated with pee.

He gets his vegs and hay in a litter box but his water bowl is off to the side. I’m wondering if he’s peeing while drinking hence peeing outside of box? Poop isn’t much of an issue; most of it is in the box.

When he does pee in box, it splashes on the wall. When he jumps in/out, he shifts the equine pine so I’m guessing it’s not absorbing much leading to wall splashes.

I’m tired of cleaning urine. It’s so stinky. Any tips?

Is he neutered? It can be difficult to fully litter train a rabbit that’s not spayed or neutered. Is the litter box large enough? I know that a lot of people put hay in their litter boxes, but I don’t think I’ve heard of putting veggies. Maybe he was getting pee on the veggies and didn’t like it. You can get litter boxes with higher sides and back to prevent splashes. The equine pine should be absorbent. It sounds like he may be jumping out before he is finished peeing.

He is neutered. I’m going to try higher sides for the splash/mess factor. But I just want him to pee while inside his box

It’s unusual that he’s doing this after being a free range rabbit with previously good habits.

I looked at your past topics and see that you did a treatment for urinary infection in the past. Did the medication help at all that time?

Did Basil come to you already neutered or did you organise that after you got him?

Is he your only rabbit? Did you get any new pets since this urine problem started?

His prior habits weren’t great which is why he’s now in an X-pen. I got tired of cleaning up. I’m noticing that he’s peeing in the General area of where his bum is when he’s drinking out of his bowl. Coincidence or reason?

His UTI cleared up. He’s physically very clean

I got him neutered. No changes to pets. He’s our solo bun.

I’m going to buy a bigger pan and start with that.

Did his litter habits improve when he was being treated?

Is that where the runner is? Some rabbits cannot resist peeing on absorbent items like towels, blanket, carpets.
Does he drink a lot of water?

I do understand your frustration. My rabbit Jersey became very bad with peeing on the floor in their area and it was difficult to discern whether it was purely behavioural or medical.

When he had a UTI, the only sign I knew something was wrong was his bum. He was getting dreadlocks/stinky. His bathroom habits weren’t affected by it. After antibiotics and a sanitary shave, he was as good as new.

The runner is in his X-pen area. The litter box is on one end with the runner under it + it covers the entire length. I’ve put a wee-wee pad under it to help absorb because it’s going to ruin my hardwood. I cleaned the area today and again, pee in the same general area. I’m at my wits end! He drinks an average amount.

                    Thanks for the replies.
