Last night, I checked all the bunnies teeth while trimming toes. But Bruno and Annie each had what appeared to be a small spikey tooth in with their front teeth. Bruno’s was slightly off to the side and Annie’s was growing along the bottom teeth curve. Are these spurs? Obviously they aren’t normal and we’ll get them to the vet as soon as we get paid and such. They have never been there before. Neither has problems eating/drinking. I feel Bruno’s is a bit more urgent because it’s starting to curve sideways a bit.

Has their hay type or amount of chewy fiber sources changed at all?

I have no experience with front teeth spurs, I’m not sure, but I don’t think they’re called spurs, just over-grown incisors. It can happen after dental fractures, dental wear becomes compromised due to misalignment (can be very slight). Then the incisors become uneven. A vet can cut the incisors, but it’s advised not to try it yourself.

Some buns have really big problems with their incisors, and for those the best option can be to have the incisors surgically removed.

Hmm, it could be hay. I admit I’ve been a little lax about that lately. They have other chewy things. I will improve my haying habits and see if that helps. I’ll keep a close eye on them.

I should note I’m not a bad bunny mommy on purpose. But my husband and I have been taking turns being quite sick for a awhile now and when it’s hard to even care for yourself…well anyways, I will improve.

Bam, the husband asked if that was an option. That’s sounds awful though. Hopefully things won’t come to that.

Chewy had a spur in the making several weeks ago – our local shop had failed to restock the hay his royal highness prefers, so his hay consumption dropped significantly. Within a week or so of munching obsessively again on his Oxbow orchard (which is a softer hay to begin with), his teeth were nice and even again. Not saying that’s the case – your buns could’ve bumped booplesnoots while playing and snaggled their teeth that way, but it might help

Hope you and your hubby are on the mend now…

Yeah, hay can often turn it around.

Ive not ever heard of incisor spurs either. It sounds like a bit of uneven wear. But when the incisors become mal-aligned, that’s when molar spurs can begin to develop so your getting on top of this now is a good thing.

Do either of these two chew on pen bars? That might contribute to odd shaped incisors or them moving out of place.

Just had a thought: Is what you’re seeing on the upper teeth?

Could it be the peg teeth behind the upper incisors that are over grown?

Jersey, Bruno’s was upper. Annie’s was right in front of her bottom teeth, like a new tooth almost.

So I googled tooth problems (images) and it was horrifying. How so some of these poor bunnies even survive? Are some bunnies just born with bad teeth or is it signs of neglect? Very sad.

Also, I didn’t see anything like mine, so still not sure.
