My bunny Patch has been eating his droppings as well as his caecotrophes.  Anybody experienced this?

Background: rescued rabbit who had spent months in a small enclosure, territorial, a bit aggressive. Adopted him 6/11. Settled in quite well at home. Currently recovering from castration (11/11) – has infection so on meds. He won’t eat anything bar hay at the minute, but I guess that’s a good thing – not good when trying to get meds into him – he will not take them one bit!

Is he eating of his poop or just the occasional pellet?
I thought I knew something about why he might do this, but I can’t remember for the life of me what it was? :/
If he was used to receiving limited food, he might eat his poops as a method of receiving additional fiber. Maybe it has something to do with the meds?
Hopefully someone with a better answer will chime in.

Yeah I was thinking maybe his diet wasn’t too great where he was before and so it’s just a habit now. He seems to be doing it less often now which is good

Oh that’s good then. Maybe if you were having to confine him a bit more due to his recovery, he reverted to an old habit?

Yeah I haven’t seen him do it now for a few days. Thank you
