Just got back from the vet and found out thumper is a girl!! The pet store must have gotten the sex wrong! I’m
A little annoyed because spaying is more expensive then neutering and also spaying is a bigger surgery. It’s over $200 more to spay then it is to neuter ?
I have another vet appt next week to get a second quote. Sigh, wasn’t expecting to spend so much right now with the holidays and our vacation coming up. Maybe I can wait until after.
What was funny was my son cried when he found it was a girl ?? do you think we can keep the name Thumper?

Aw bless, I think that name is nice for boys for girls.

Lol, we hear of this a lot here on BB! Young bunnies can be difficult to sex and often the staff at pet stores really have no clue. That’s unfortunate, though, because of the increased expense.

Of course, you can keep the name Thumper. That’s cute for a boy or a girl.

It’s not uncommon for the sex change fairy to visit bunnies, especially pet store buns

My Bandit changed gender twice, I bought him as a boy, the vet told me he was a girl, then a week or so later his man bits dropped

Haha !! Surprise !! And so maybe “she” is getting more territorial (nippy)…. makes sense.

Depending on how forward you are, or how passionate you feel about the extra cost, I would get in touch with the store manager, with a friendly but forceful manner, saying how very important it was that you wanted a boy for this and this reason and that they should pay for some of the surgery.
They in effect, sold you the wrong “product” !!

ESPECIALLY as a boys neuter is preference (your choice madame), but a female’s spay is OBLIGATORY (for her health).

I am sure that the pet shop will NOT accept this as they don’t like giving money out…!!!

HOWEVER…. you could then go down the road of asking for shopping vouchers to the amount of the difference between neuter and spay costs.

So for ex : if a neuter was $100 and a spay is $300, ask the shop for vouchers or discounts to the effect of $200.

If there is still a wall in front of you, go higher….. regional manager etc.. they don’t like fuss and will cave in.
It pays to be a pain in the backside.

                  But always be polite.

I took 18 months to get a faulty towing bar changed on the back of my car….!!!
Once I got through to the right person, he was SO apologetic and I got lots of freebies too…. but it took time….

                  Thumper’ette
                  Thumper’ella
                  Thumpbelina ….? LOL

Oh really , maybe it’s worth a try. I feel bad causing trouble. They did say they “think” its a boy. That shows that they were unsure of the sex. Though I would love to get free paper pellets/food/hay, etc…
I have another vet appointment next week which is a free initial exam as well, do you think I should get a quote for a spay from them as well or should I not bother? also maybe I should make sure it is a girl ? maybe the vet got it wrong??
So far she hasn’t bit since Sunday , thank goodness. she Binky’s like crazy, especially in the morning, and she constantly comes and lays at our feet for massages and cuddles. she also constantly follows us around as we walk around the family room ! Lol! she even lets the kids lay With her and give her kisses ? She has a stuffed bunny that she nips and mounts? so maybe she’s getting her frustrations out with the stuffed bunny? So that could help? Maybe she was biting my daughter because it was all still new to her and she was scared, now she’s getting a little bit more used to us ? at least that’s what I’m hoping?

The sex change fairy? Lol, well its better than what happened when my baby was born, I was very ill after my son was born and couldn’t sit up and was put on some very strong pain medicines, I was very dizzy and confused, I wanted to phone my family and tell them about the baby, a telephone was brought to my bed, I spoke to my mum on the phone and said I had had a little girl, then I went to sleep and woke up to find my family there with pink teddy bears and pink baby clothes.

Charlies Angel, you must have been so confused about that Haha, what a funny thing.

Koukla, I would be getting a quote from the other vet as well, it may be cheaper

Yes, I decided to call a couple of places and I’m going to the other vet next week.

                              OMG, CA =D

Koukla, her biting is a little bit more consistent with her being a girl than a boy. Girls tend to be grumpier esp in their teens, before they are spayed. It sounds reasonable though that her intitial biting was defensive.

Yes, and had nipples that I felt while petting her and a tiny Dulap (I think)

It sounds as if things are settling down, but Thumperella will get more excitable (mine did) with getting a bit older, a bit more settled and so make sure your daughter doesn’t get carried away again, as it seems the trust is being rebuilt – that’s great news.
