I’ve seen something called Dandelion Mix in my local pet shop and I wondered if something like that would be suitable for sprinkling over my bunnies hay daily or their pellets to make it more interesting . It says it’s made up of 97% dandelion leaf and 3% dandelion flower. There’s also a Clover and Plantain mix which is 80% plantain and 20% red clover . Is this okay for bunnies in general or should I treat it as a….treat?

Yes you can certainly sprinkle it over their hay, both plantain and dandelion can be fed fresh daily as part of daily greens, so dried is fine too. Clover tends to be quite rich and cause upsets so I would probably feed that mix in treat amounts, but the dried dandelion should be fine in larger amounts, though I wouldn’t free feed it or anything, just sprinkle some on hay or pellets

Thank you I’ll use the dandelion one 5 days a week and the Clover just twice a week! Oh and yes I’ll definitely just sprinkle it over their food, I shan’t give them huge amounts .

Dandelion is fine to give every day, it’s excellent as a hay topper. Clover should be fed sparingly since it’s very rich and can cause tummy trouble.

Thank you Bam, I’ll give them just a pinch of Clover a couple of times per week but dandelion will be used daily

Decided to scrap that plan! I ended up buying some dandelion, coltsfoot, plantain, nettle and marigold from The Hay Experts. I figured I would use one different one each day for 5 days of the week (so dandelion on a Monday, nettle on Tuesday for example) and on the other 2 days a week I will use fruit or carrot. Of course all this needs to be introduced slowly at first Very excited to make foraging for hay more fun for my bunbuns!

It sounds like a good plan, I think your buns will be delighted. Foraging is a very important part of the daily life of a bunny.
