Bunbun always has a dirty bottom. It’s starting to get a bit frustrating, especially when I see so many other rabbits with spotless hind feet and perfectly white posteriors!!!!  I end up having to give him a bath every Saturday or every other Saturday… however, in some places he is permanently stained yellow!

He never has any poop stuck on his behind, just urine. Does anyone know why my rabbit seems to be particularly dirty, and how to avoid it?

(I do use store-bought litter — the brand is called Critter Care)

Is he peeing on himself or is he peeing and then sitting/laying in it? If hes peeing himself, a vet check should be in order to make sure he doesnt have a UTI or another infection or blockage. If he is peeing and sitting in it, you might need to change his litter more often or use more of it. There is a litter box and litter grid in the BinkyBunny store that might help out as well

I think he’s sitting in his pee, I’ve never seen him pee on himself. Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll try that and see if it works!!!  Now that I think about it, changing his litter more often does sound like the obvious thing to do…

If he’s sitting on his pee, one thing you could try that has worked for us is putting in a wire grid on the litter box. It should be thick and spaces shouldnt be too large (small enough for pee and poop to pass through)- although it would’nt be too comfortable, it shouldnt cause pain to the foot but hopefully would discourage your rabbit from sitting on it and keep his bottom clean. You can buy some litter boxes with the wire grid already attached.
