I have 2 Mini Rex’s and I am planning on gettting a holland lop soon my mini Rex’s have lived together their whole lives, I was wondering how much bonding a new rabbit in would hurt their relationship. I have 2 girls and my next one will be a girl, all spayed. Olive and Bean love each other so much, they lay in hide houses together and Olive freaks out when I take Bean out of the cage or try to separate them, how much would it hurt olive and beans relationship?

When you add another bun(s) into an already bonded pair, there is always a risk that their bond breaks. You risk having three single buns, or having one of the original buns breaking off to become a pair to the new bunny leaving the other first bun solo. The risk depends on how cemented the bond is as well as every bunnies personality. You also risk them fighting since their hierarchy will need to be reset. Youll have to take bonding pretty carefully, specially if they did not pick out the third themselves

I myself had two bonded rabbits. One male and one female, both Spayed/neutered. I added a third rabbit and their bond broke. However it is possible to re-bond them all and I was successful in doing so. Just make sure when you add the third rabbit you let them see the rabbit first in the carrier or a space where they are divided but can still see and smell each other. That way you can see how they react. If your already bonded pair tries to fight each other break it up right away. The longer they fight the harder it is for them to “forget” that they did. Just make sure you have enough space in your home should you have to keep all three separate for a little while. Feel free to check out my post “Bonding three rabbits” and if you have any questions just ask!
