I might be getting a rabbit in December.

I will be keeping her in my room, but I don’t sleep in my room.

My plan is to turn on a light night (plugged into a power socket) close her cage for the night, close the baby gate (the main door will still be open), turn the over-head light off, then leave the room.

I’m worried that she might be lonely.

I’d be back as soon as I woke up, but would a rabbit be able to last the night?

People have bunny rooms where they do the same thing, but I don’t know if it’s any different in the situation.

My room is going to be the room where she can roam anywhere she likes (with me supervising) but at night I would have to close the cage so she doesn’t do anything mischievous.

        Will she get lonely?

        Thanks for any tips.

She’ll get lonely to some extent, yes, rabbits like company. On the other hand, having a caged bunny in the room you yourself sleep in is bound to disturb your sleep. Many people who have tried that have eventually had to move the bunny cage out of the bedroom because the bunny makes a terrible racket during the night. And every time the human wakes up and fusses over the bun, the behavior is reinforced, so it soon becomes a vicious cycle (for the human. A very nice cycle for the bun, obviously).

If the main door is open she can still hear and smell the goings-on in the house and know she’s not abandoned, so I think that’ll be fine. But she might not be happy about it at first. You can make her cage a preferred place to be by only ever serving her food in the cage, if the cage can be accessible to her during the day so she can hop in and out as she pleases. Also add some treats. Rabbits are as a rule food-motivated and they like places where there’s food.

The night light is imo completely superfluous. Rabbits aren’t very big on light, actually. Wild rabbits sleep in warrens deep under ground, and their most active time is at dusk and dawn when there’s not much light. Being afraid of the dark is more of a human thing.
