So our new bunny, Thumper has white fur and brown eyes. He has a Very light “griege” butterfly or “U” in front of his face and his ears a light griege, but he is over all white. Every white bunny I see has blue or red eyes. Is brown eyes rrare for a white bunny? They look red when light hits them though. I haven’t had time to figure out how to upload a pic because I’ve been so busy. Any insight would be great!

Since he has griege markings, he has some pigment, he’s not an albino. Forum leader LittlePuffyTail has a brown-eyed white bunny.

Some rabbits have pigment that is only expressed in body parts that get colder than core temp. (Himalayans and Calif white), so they have red eyes even if their ears and paws and nose is black.

This is my big boy, Sterling:

According to what I’ve read, true white bunnies with no dark points and brown eyes are extremely rare. I thought I had one but my boy has actually started getting some grey hairs on his nose with the changing temperatures.

Interesting! He sounds as if he has one of the shaded patterns(like frosted) but a very dilute colouring perhaps.

How old is Thumper? You may even see his coat darker as he gets older or seasonally. Also, it’s common for rabbits that have shaded colours to have a “ruby cast” to their eyes. If you look up “frosted pearl rabbits”, you’ll see a lot of almost white rabbits, dark eyes and various degrees of shading in their coats.

That’s what I was thinking Jersey. Or he could have the broken gene and is mostly white and the main color is something very dilute/light. If he’s young, some color may develop yet.

Sterling is gorgeous! I will have to look up these breeds! I was tole thumper is 8/9 months old. I’ve had such a busy week that i haven’t had time to upload pictures, I’m away this weekend so I’ll try next week. I was somewhat regretting buying Thumper because I was thinking maybe I should have gotten a smaller/mini bunny because they are so cute and tiny. But he still is so sweet and cute even though he’s bigger then I planned to get and he’s been with us since Sunday, first 2 days he was very scared. But the past 3 days have been so good. He gets better and better everyday and he’s getting so cuddly. ?

Ok I looked up frosted pearl and his fur color is similar to this, but he doesn’t look like a frosted pearl, Thumper has ears that stick straight up, not floppy. But if he is a mix, so maybe he has the frosted pearl gene?

Frosted pearl is just a colour name, not a breed. It can get confusing with rabbits though as there are some breed names that are alsocolour names or pattern names. Like Harlequin or Silver Marten for example. These are patterns that lot of different breeds can display but they are also a name of a breed of rabbit.

Yep, frosted pearl is just a color and can be found in many breeds. But rabbit colors and genetics can be so confusing, especially when a breed is developed around a specific color or pattern and then that color/pattern is later introduced into other breeds. Harlequin is an excellent example of this. Breeders liked the pattern, so they tried to produce harlequin patterned rabbits of every breed imaginable.
