        Hello everyone,

I am getting ready to move back to my home country with my pet Holland Lop in a few months. From where I’m at, one of the requirements for rabbits to fly internationally is a couple of days in the Animal Quarantine Service for observation.

Unfortunately my rabbit has a spot of fur mites on the back of his neck and a little bit around his ears. It’s not severe though, and its not that noticeable. I’ve already started treating him with Ivermectin. Hopefully it clears up before I submit him to the Animal Quarantine Service, but in the event it does not — Will having fur mites disqualify him from travelling internationally?

        Thanks for the help, guys.

Ooh, that’s a tricky one. Have you flown with him before?
My guess is unfortunately if he has fur mites they will not let him fly. However, if you aren’t leaving for a few months, the mites should be cleared up by then, so you will likely be fine. If you are still concerned, I would call the quarentine service to ask about it. Good luck!

Agree with LEL; In a few months the mites will have clearedup if you are treating him with ivermectin now and do a repeat treatment after 3-4 weeks. As a rule ivermectin works fast and is very effective against mites.

This is irrelevant, but ivermectin works faster? My vet gave me Revolution when Licorice had mites. (But he had a pretty severe case, maybe that’s why?)

No Revolution is the best thing, actually. It’s very bunny-safe and it’s given as a spot-on, so no need for injections or for the bun to take the med orally. But Ivermectin will do the trick too. Revolution isn’t available everywhere and there are also vets that still prefer to use it instead of Revolution. Revolution (selamectin is the substance-name) is derived from ivermectin.

Sorry for the late reply, everyone (I’m still figuring out how my account works).

We will be leaving in 2 months, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the fur mites will be gone by then. The Ivermectin seems to be working. Small patches of fur are growing back, but he’s still shedding some dandruff. I’ll do repeat treatments and hopefully it totally clears up!

Thanks for the help, guys. @BunnyFriends – I chose to use Ivermectin as it was the only one I could buy online from Japan.

                    Ah, okay.  Good luck, then!

EDIT: Two smiles a sentence a part. I’m ashamed of myself.

Good luck! Good to hear he’s showing improvement!
