I got home from work at 4am as normal and let Gus out for a quick run before going to bed. I always do this after a late shift. He was binkying around the kitchen for a bit then stayed there when I went to my room. I got up about half hour later to shut him away and found him in the hall.- he let me pet him for a few seconds then bolted under my bed. Not unusual so I went and prepared his late dinner and brought some coriander back to bribe him out.
Nothing doing. He wouldnt look at me or the food. When i reached under the bed to pet him he dived away. I managed to convince him to come out long enough for a quick pet (as he munched on pellets, his fave) and then he bolted back under and wont move. He is frequently thumping. It’s 5am now and I am desperately tired but I cant just leave him there and go to sleep.
This is hugely out of character – he is usually my shadow around the house and will always come running for food or pets. I cant think of whats upset him – MAYBE my housemate snoring? That isnt new though so I dont know why it would upset Gus tonight. Does anyone have any ideas of what to do?

Something spooked him – maybe some noises or smells outside that you can’t smell or hear. Dorothy did this for 2 nights a couple of weeks ago, she was absolutely petrified at something. I couldn’t find what was scaring her – no new candles or scents in the house and no loud noises out of the norm, and she would not stop thumping. But all of a sudden she just stopped. It’s hard to say what it is exactly, but I would say if it goes on longer than a few days, maybe get advice from a vet.

Okay good to know it’s ‘normal’ at least! I hope he doesn’t do it too often.
It took me nearly an hour but I managed to coax him back to his pen. He spent a good 10 minutes ‘patrolling’ the kitchen first – very stiff body and movements, ears on the alert.
This morning, he is back to his normal self! Like nothing happened. I got some cheek kisses too – I’m wondering if that’s his way of apologizing for keeping me up till 6am
