Yesterday I went to get my medicine for my teeth and my friend’s medicine from the Doctors, I walked there and saw a bus stop and a lady get on the bus with a folded pushchair, the bus drove off and a little boy was stood crying, people told me that his Mummy had got on the bus and he had been left behind, the people at the bus stop were not bothered and were on their mobile phones, I saw that the bus had stopped just after the bridge and the lights on, so I took the little boy down to the bus, it was really busy and I got to the bus and the doors were open, I said to the driver that he had been left behind and the boy’s Mummy took him, its a good job I was there because he wasn’t very old and he could have run into the busy road or someone could have taken him, it must have been scary for the the boy he was only about 3 years old.

I don’t know why no one banged on the bus door to tell the driver, here buses have 2 doors and his Mummy got on at the middle doors, easily done, it just seems that no one cares about little ones left in the street in a busy city, not their kid not bothered.

So glad you were there and helped the little boy!

I’ve read that people tend not to help others in public places nowadays, and I think a big reason is that we often have our noses in our mobile phones and take no notice of what goes on around us. Good thing you did see what was happening!

            How right you are Bam.
People look at their phones even when visiting Grandma, then its too late and wish that they did speak to Grandma and not play games on phones.

How did the mom not notice her child was missing? You’d think she would have made the bus stop…good thing you were there!

I’m glad you were there and it all worked out.
What I do NOT understand, is why she was not at least holding the child’s hand (since he was so young), and how she did not notice that the child was not on the bus with her. You’d think that she would have immediately had the bus driver stop or something…

There have been loads of social experiments done on this kind of thing (people not helping out strangers) and a lot of it comes down to people not helping for fear of repercussions, for example:

Being beaten up when stopping a fight, being accused of touching/ snatching a child when helping them, being injured when stopping a mugging etc.

It’s a sad world we live in where you cant help people out for fear of your own life

Yes AxGizmo, I understand what you mean, people get the wrong idea or things get twisted, like if a man finds a little boy or girl crying in a shopping centre because they lost Mummy and Daddy, a man goes to help, people stare, people want to help and they can’t, just being helpful if a man goes to help a child someone could say. “Oh yes the child was crying, the man said everything was OK, touched the child’s head and left the kid at security and bought back the child an ice cream.” Next day front page news, ‘Man in court, accused of kidnapping.’
Yes there are bad people out there, but not everyone is bad, its all changed now, for example if a child was crying outside your house and lost and you said that he could go in the house out of the rain and watch TV with your husband and have a drink whilst you called his parents or the police, you can’t do that now.

When I am at my grandma’s house, I am always sure to shut off my phone. It’s respectful
