This morning I found a puddle of blood with what looks like blood clots in it. I’m assuming it is from her pee. She’s at the vet right now and we’re waiting to hear back the results of a urinalysis. I’m not sure what to do at this point.

Sorry this is my first post, I’ve been lurking for a while.

Thanks for the concern. She is 11 months old and not spayed yet. She is scheduled to be spayed on Monday.

I was wondering about that because bleeding could be uterine, not necessarily UT related
Either way I hope she’ll be well. Poor little girl…

Please keep us updated. Uterine problems are common in unspayed girl buns, as Q8 says. Sending her many vibes (((((Violet)))))

A little update. Violet’s spay went well yesterday. She doesn’t have much energy and took her pain medicine and antibiotics very easily this morning. She’s not eating or moving around much. However, she did eat some lettuce and hay earlier. I doesn’t look like she has pooped yet though. Is this something I should be worried about?

Also, the doctor said that her uterus was thickening so it’s good that she got spayed. Does anyone know what a thick uterus means?

She must poo within 12 hours or you have to contact your vet. It’s normal for anesthetics to cause the intestine to slow down, but it must “speed up” again after the surgery.

It’s great that she has eaten. Try to get her to eat more. You can mix baby fruit puree with soaked pellets if she’s not eating her pellets. If you have CC you can give that. Any treat she wants she should get (in moderate amounts of course- but if she tries to devour treats and beg for more, you can consider the crisis pretty much over).

It’s really important that you keep her warm. Rabbits tend to become hypothermic after surgery. Low body temp slow things down further and it becomes a vicious cycle.

Thickening of the uterus means the cells in the the uterine lining are multiplying more than they should, so the uterine wall becomes thicker. It’s driven by estrogen. It’s not cancer, but it can become cancer. So it’s really great that you had her spayed!

Great news! Keep trying to feed her literally whatever she will eat to get those poops moving. (((continued healing)))

She seems to be in better spirits today and is actually letting us pet her again. She is eating a little – nibbling here and there at hay, pellets, and romaine lettuce and I’ve noticed some poop. Small poop but poop nonetheless. The only thing that worries me is the smell of the poop. It has a weird smell to it and is a little runny. I’m not sure if this is just a normal thing because she is still on antibiotics and pain medicine.

                              YAAAY! POOOOOOPS!

Normal while her system gets up to full steam again. Plus meds always change the smell of pee and poop somewhat – in all creatures

Keep an eye on it – from here on, her poops should be getting better in all respects. If they don’t, give the vet a call or pop her in for a wee checkup.

If her poop becomes REALLY runny, like watery and/or with mucus in it, then it’s a veterinary emergency. Antibiotics can in rare cases cause that.

But if her poop just smells weird and is sticky and there are also formed, round poops albeit small, that’s just normal after surgery and meds. It rights itself with time if she keeps eating, esp hay.
