Hi everyone! I have two rabbits, Roger and Jessica. They are somewhere around 8 years old. I got them as a pair, bonded, 4 years ago, spayed and neutered.

Roger has always been a little feisty, which is what drew me to him in the first place since I thought he was hilarious. But the last couple of weeks I’ve been completely perplexed. He is trashing the area inside the x-pen they live in almost every day. Some days, it’s several times a day!  Sometimes once I finish cleaning it, he decides to pick up and toss their litterbox to the other side of the pen. He digs out all their Carefresh, hay, and poops and spreads them around (on purpose, with his paws). One morning I found him dragging the litterbox so it was literally outside of the pen.  My rabbits then go to the bathroom in the area that formerly occupied the litterbox. Then they sit in it, I even saw Roger’s white fur get discolored one night from sitting in the urine.

I thought I did a decent job cleaning, and have tried buying a new litterbox, but it hasn’t fixed anything. I’m planning on trying to attach the litterbox to the pen soon, but other than that I am just completely stumped as to what could possibly be causing this!

I let my bunnies run around several hours a day, evening and mornings. They have lots of toys… cardboard boxes, a maze, willow chew toys, a tunnel, etc.

I’m not sure if there may be some weird underlying issue that could warrant a vet visit…? Or if Roger is just cranky or bored? Does anyone have any ideas??
