Last Thursday while sitting in the sun on the screen-in porch, Nibble started screaming. She has been napping before she started screaming. Afterward she calmed down quickly and ate, drank, and pooped as usual. Two days later she was relaxing in her cage and the same thing – screams, then goes about her normal activities. Sunday night she screamed again, quiet Monday, then today she screamed twice. She is acting normally otherwise, she eats her greens, pellets and hay as usual, is drinking the same amount and there is no change in poop amounts or her interacting with her people or cats. Nibbles and the cats are not left unsupervised together and she and the cats either ignore each other or sit near one another. We have had no changes to our household routines. Any ideas? Is she hearing something we can’t? I know we have hawks and owls that live near our house, could she have seen the hawk while on the porch?

You mean, scream like rabbits do when snatched up by a hawk? OMG, that would freak me out. I’m so sorry. I’ve never heard of a rabbit doing that when not dying, but maybe others have? I think I would take her to the vet to make sure she isn’t screaming from pain.

If its often while shes napping, is she having nightmares? Maybe she has internal pain?

The scream is horrible and is the sound when a rabbit gets snatched! The cats are frightened when she screams also. It’s not a sound I want to hear from my bun!

It has been while she is napping and I had thought maybe it was a nightmare but couldn’t really find any thing about how common that was when searching.

My Blue will have bad dreams once in a while. Maybe once a month, unless were more busy than normal and cant spend as much time with them. When he has bad dreams, he will wake up, instantly loaf, and thump as loud as he can with his eyes wide. He will thump like that every 10 to 20 seconds until we calm him down; usually talking to him softly and petting his head lightly does the trick. We dont know why this happens
