Hey guys! I have just had my baby holland lop bunny Cuddle for a little under a month now. She is 4 and half months old and I am looking to have her spayed in the near future. Problem is I am still in search for a bunny-savvy doctor in my area, which appeared to me not that many vets can properly see/ treat bunnies around me. I am just wondering if anyone would recommend a good vet for my baby in central PA area (Harrisburg & Hershey area, Lancaster area)? I would appreciate all the suggestions.

Hello and WELCOME !! I’m guessing if I don’t know where “central PA” is then I’m not going to be able to help you, sorry.
But I think your bun’s name is the best!

I found a few vets in that area .
Carlisle Small Animal Vet Clinic in Carlisle, Pa
Animal Healthcare Center of Hershey, Pa
              VCA bridgeport in Lancaster, Pa
Manheim Pike Vet Hospital in Lancaster, Pa
Colonial Park Animal Clinic in Harrisburg, Pa

Those are just a few that I found. While I have no personal experience with them, they all treat rabbits. I’d reccomend taking a look at the websites, and calling to get price estimates. It’s helpful to read the bios of the veterinarians that work at each place to see if any have a special interest in rabbits and small animals.

Thanks! So far i have taken her to the Colonial Park Animal Clinic, they quoted me $285 for her spay surgery. I am not experienced enough to know if thats the usual cost or otherwise too high. However, I do notice the doctor is planning on using Sevoflurance anesthesia during the surgery, which is not what the House Rabbit Society website suggests.

Maybe try enquire through the Harrisburg area Humane Society or Local HRS chapter Facebook pages? I did find a clinic whose vet used to work with the Humane society then opened her own spay/neuter clinic. This seems to be closed now though. The vets name is Dr Tracy Moussa.

The house rabbit society’s website mentions isoflurane as the common anesthesia used for rabbits. After doing some research it seems that sevoflurane is similar to isoflurane. Sevoflurane can be easier on rabbits and other animals, with quicker recovery times because of its non-pungent odor and low blood-gas solubility. It may be worth asking the doctor why they use sevoflurane over levothurane. Did the vet otherwise seem to be knowledgeable about rabbits? Imy located in Delaware, and Id say the price is very fair for the area. Did they quote you a high and lowend price? Does it include blood work, and a fecal test? Contacting the southeastern pa/delaware house rabbit society may prove to be helpful as well.
