Sampras was on antiobiotics for ten weeks, and last week we took him of of it. He held steady off of the antibiotic and the vet decided that the mucous was a result of circling symptoms-he was sneezy cause his nose was full of mucous, which inflamed his nose, causing mucous secretion, causing him to sneeze and so on and so on.

Then I started using a nebuliser to disperse bisolvon(a mucolytic)  into his airways. It’s mixed with a saline solution and he gets it once a day for five minutes.
He’s gotten very sneezy because of it.
I know the point of nebulising is to get the mucous out of his nose…but I cant tell if it’s helping or hindering, or whether the pasturella has recultured and I should be moving him back on to antibiotics

He has antiinflammatories that I’ve started him on(He couldnt take them because they were upsetting his tummy)

How many days has he been on the nebuliser treatment? Sneezing is pretty normal as its helping him get the snot loosened up so he can get it out. What color is it?

One of my bunnies needs to be nebulised about 15 minutes a week due to chronic allergies. I take him into the bathroom with me with the shower on hot to create a lot of steam. On his bad days, he will sneeze throughout the whole session, but on better days he may only sneeze once or twice

was he nebulized with antibiotics. George is nebulized 15 mins twice a day with a mucolytic and antibiotics. This really helps him. Oral antibiotics do not do a great job on him. I would definitely see about another culture after a week or two. Getting the mucous out is definitely good.

He’s been on it 5 days now, the discharge is sticky, and mostly a milky white white colour.

He was taken off of antibiotics before I started to nebulise him.

I just worry about more fluid in his lungs is all.

Sounds like he still needs more antibiotics, along with the nebuliser treatment. Their snot should be clear or almost clear

The vet says it’s to do with how much damage has been done to the conchae in his nose and that they became so encased in mucous that the remnants are going to stay that thick white colour for a while, whilst they are coming down.
His conchae were damaged to the point that he was experiencing nosebleeds and they contemplated giving him a turbinectomy as he was mouth breathing.

The vets in the clinic want to keep him off the antibiotics as long as they can at the moment to try and give his system time to recover(pasturella will not really ever go away-but lettting his gut bacteria re culture might stop it from taking hold again), plus they want to get him inoculated, so as long as he doesn’t deteriorate they wont put him back on them.

I was just worried that the nebuliser was causing more harm than good, hearing him start to sneeze again so much, I feared it was causing agitation.

Giving him a break for as long as possible is good for his body but you shouldnt hesitate to take him in for another check just in case if you feel the need to

Nope! All of it coming out from the nebuliser is helping him
