So I posted a few days ago about my bun chewing walls and it was suggested I buy her chew toys. Question is, how do I change her focus from the walls to the toys. She completely ignores the toys and continues chewing the walls. Any ideas on how to teach her what the chew toys are for?

My bun LOVED my drywalls when he was little. Only way to make him stop was to catch him in the act, clap my hands loudly and yell NO very sternly.
It took a few times to make him associate wall chewing to “punishment”, but eventually he stopped.
He still doesn’t care for his chew toys unless I am actively using them to play with him, but at least my walls are safe

From the very start I have always yelled her name every time I’ve heard her chewing the walls. She’ll be startled initially but she still does it again anyway. It seems like she just loves it too much to stop.

NIC cube girds + cardboard = barrier between bunny and wall

This worked like a charm for Leopold. I put a long piece of cardboard against the wall and then sandwiched it there with NIC cube grids. I had to make sure it was tall enough that he couldn’t just stand on his hind legs and chew higher on the wall. Boy was he mad at first. He threw huge temper tantrums. But then he just forgot about it. It’s as if those tasty walls never existed.

That sounds like a good idea but the problem is it’s not just one wall, she’ll go anywhere in the house. That’s a lot of cardboard and NIC cubes.
I’ve been looking around, any chance building a cardboard castle might be a good distraction or are the walls potentially just too tasty?

No, drywall tastes better than cardboard.

And yeah, there is cardboard pretty much all the way around their room.

Have you tried something solid and stationary? Like a wood block that can’t move? Buns really like things that are stationary to chew on.

i know exactly what you mean, my bunny loves the wallpaper and i have tried absolutely everything. i have cardboard boxes in the room, chew toys, wooden things, wooden books for her to chew on and she still goes for the walls!

i have to idea what else to try, i’ve tried shouting her name, clapping, making her jump but still nothing works. maybe its because i adopted her and shes stuck in old ways?
