Velvet is clearly too big for his small corner litter box. I had a small box because he used to have a too small cage. I recently bought a Living World Deluxe Extra Large cage. Now a larger box will fit in his cage. I have found boxes too big that are cat size or too small like what he has now. Although he is out most of the day, during the night the corner box gets kicked around. In his play space I have two boxes that are cat size. I would like an in between size that would fit a 6.5 lb bunny.

I would recommend a regular cat sized litterbox for a 6.5 lb bunny. They like to sit in one corner and eat hay from the other, and have ample room to move around. Switching to a cat litterbox significantly decreased the amount of bunny droppings on the floor for our 6 lb bunny. If there isn’t room for it in his cage, he needs a bigger cage.

This is the biggest cage I could find. It is very spactious, but even a cat box takes up 1/3 of the cage.

Storage containers are the only other thing I can think to suggest, you might find one that suits better, but I agree if a regular cat box is taking up 1/3 the cage, the cage is too small.

Yes, take a look at alternative containers in a variety store. Often there are rectangular basins in the kitchen/laundry departments. None of my litterboxes were actually sold as litterboxes.

We use underbed plastic storage boxes, all 6 buns love them

New bun Henry is confined to a large dog crate until he is bonded with Zou. His cat litter tray takes up a third of this crate and i could never envisage him being in it for keeps

He has a shelf that he lays on above his tray and goes to sleep on but there is no room for anything else once the water bowl food bowl and half a willow tree is in it !! When i let him out for play time he binkies and popcorns and reeeeally stretches out…..

                    I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE BONDED !!!!!! 3.5 wks down from Henry’s op….. 2.5 to go……..

There are some good cat litter pans at Target. I got a few there. It has a dip in the front for easy access, though bunnies jump in with no trouble. Pet owners has some deep, high backed ones if you need more protection from litter being kicked out. A high backed square one might fit well in the corner.

Thanks for the tips! I ended up finding a very large corner box at my favorite local pet store.

My bunny’s litter trays take up about a third to a half of their hutches BUT they are free roam. I couldn’t imagine if they were confined to their cage

I’m also counting down to bond my two! Two weeks to wait now! Hurry up new year!

I feel your excitement Sarah !!! (And now I have an outdoor run indoors (you don’t really need a “hutch” indoors….) and they’re being friendly towards each other, Henry is very HAPPY he is out of the dog cage (except at night when he and Zou are swapped around in it) – and of course, he seems less ‘wired’

I’m so silly I hadn’t even noticed the username, d’oh! I follow your bonding thread religiously lol.

I’ve never been so excited for something in my life!
