My 7 year 8 month old boy has been diagnosed with either a Thymoma or Lymphoma today. X-Rays finally got to the bottom of his bulging eyes

I really don’t know what to do. I’m verging on not treating him at all, as i don’t want to put him through pain and suffering for only a few extra months of life. I’ve read everything i can find online in the last week since finding out this could be the cause.
Surgery is 50/50 but with his age that’s probably not the case, he is healthy in every other way and has never had anything wrong with him before.
Radiotherapy seems to work in a few cases, but the long term survival rate is low beyond 6 months.

Has anyone had a bunny this old or older successfully treated long term??

Sadly no experience. I do know an elderly guinea pig (8 years old) with a terminal illness and all the vet prescribed him was metacam daily to make him more comfortable and it’s actually working so far. Not curing him, but the swelling went down and he leads his normal life.
Maybe you could discuss palliative therapies with your vet to accompany your bunny as gently as possible along his way. Buns are very stubborn and resilient animals, so for sure he’ll do his best even in this bad situation.

Be strong, sending love to the little guy

Oh Im sorry to hear of this diagnosis. I don’t recall of hearing about thymoma in such a young rabbit before.

I do recall a member posting last year about radiation therapy for their rabbit. You could perhaps contact them for more detail?

I’m very sorry to hear about your bunny’s diagnosis.

While I can’t offer much info, a few years back my almost 9 year old bun was diagnosed with GI cancer. My vet suggested we do palliative care as bunnies do not respond well to traditional cancer treatments. Had I been given the option, I would not have put my bunny through that, especially as he was an elder bunny. I wanted him to be as pain free for his last days as could be. He was put on pain meds. As mentioned, I have no experience with cancer treatments in animals but I’ve seen the suffering and illness that these treatments can cause in humans.

I encourage you to discuss with your vet what the options are for your bunny and chose what’s right for your situation. ((((Hugs))))
