Last night i noticed that my 2 1/2 month old bunnys fecal pellets were covered in mucus. I also noticed that the hay in here litter box seemed mucus-y too, like when she pooped it was just running out. I decided to wait out the night and noticed this morning that there were a few unformed cecotropes and still some moist, sticky poo. I recently switched her pellets to Oxbow Young Rabbit pellets so i think that might be it. Any advice? I called 2 vets and they said to wait till tomorrow but i want to make sure she’s okay! She is still eating and pooping, her poop is just mushy. Also, how do i clean off her bum because it has poop on it.
        Thank you!!

Due to her age, I would definitely get her checked out. Mucus usually indicates that she has had some inflammation in her gastro intestinal tract. If you saw a lot of it, get her seen sooner rather then later. The change in pellets could be a culprit but normally that would just produce softer poos, not mucusy.  At this age, rabbits can present with coccidia or sometimes a clostridium overgrowth in the gut which needs vet attention.  Do you have a rabbit vet?

Sometimes you can pull away the messy poo after it sets a bit or use wet wipes. You may have to give her a butt bath if she is really messy.
Here is a little more info about that.

Thank you! I haven’t seen the mucus since that night, just sticky poos now. The vet said if the mucus continues i should bring her in, but it hasn’t. Should i still be concerned?

I would still have her checked out, especially with her being so young.

I took her to the vet today and she is in good health! Her poops are back to normal so I think it was just the change in pellets!
