I have what you could call, a natural style garden  Basically meaning there’s weeds everywhere. So you’re here to help me with ID!

So these first ones I’m assuming are all sow thistle. Some have green stems and some have red/purple stems, is it just different species or normal variation? Sow thistle are safe, yes? I was thinking I might cut a bunch and let it all dry, rather than feeding it fresh.

        Mega patch.

This one has the tall habit of sow thistle, but the leaves are rounded. Different species?

This seems to be something different. It has different seed heads, not sure what this is.

I also have one more weed, but it seems I’ve reached the image attachment limit, lol. Will put that in my next post

Another one I have no idea of. It has fine hairs above and below the leaf.

            6.1-6.2: flatweed? Hypochaeris radicata

That looks like a good match Thanks for that. One sight listed similar species which is doesn’t look anything like so I think you’re right. Thanks for that, and it’s bunny safe which is even better.

I am terrible at identifying plants lol. That’s why Moxie always gets store bought veggies.

I just searched by leaf shape, so definitely make sure

Well at least Dory likes the sow thistle Or at least the flower/seed heads.

Dory is stunning. What is the red forage in the other photo of Dory?

Milk or sow thistle are the first ones, all of them and the last two with the broad flat leaves are dandelions.

The last one definitely isn’t dandelion, shouldn’t have hairs on it if it’s a dandelion.

Odette the other foliage is bottlebrush branches with flowers

That’s a gorgeous plant. I don’t think we have bottlebrush in my area.

It’s an Australian native, so commonly cultivated here as street trees. I’ve only ever seen one when I was in the USA in someone’s back garden in Florida. I doubt they would tolerate northern areas that get snow in winter.

I think 1-5 are all sowthistle also, just at various stages of maturity. May be some different species of it too… Common Sow thistle it obviously the most common . There’s perennial sowthistle which I think form in a rosette. And smooth leaved sowthistle. There’s a prickly one also, I think.

If no. 6 is flatweed, then that’s apparently a type of dandelion. I didn’t know there were more then one type tbh. Flatweed is also known as cats ear or dandelion or false dandelion. Same family as well known dandelion. To confuse things further, false dandelion seems to be a name for plants. Again, all from same family.

There are lots of dandelions, Jersey. It’s apparently a whole complex. They really can have very variable appearance. I found this charming info:
                                  http://www.kew.org/science-conservation/plants-fungi/taraxacum-officinale-dandelion
Taraxacologist sounds like an interesting job

                                  Dory really is stunning.

I chose flatweed over regular dandelion because I read that flatweed has a fine hair when I searched for irregular lobed weeds in Australia.

Honestly, I only think of dandelions as the white puff flowers. I’m the last person in the know on plants.

Me either. And certainly no taraxacologist! Who knew there was such a thing?!

I get more confused the more I look at images when there are such similar looking species.

                                        Thanks for the help

All of those look like dandelion to me.
That’s why I don’t pick weeds-I’d mess my bunnies up, that’s for sure!
