Any Canadian bun have used wood pellets in the litter box? What’s a good brand?

Yes, yes, yes! Rona has good wood pellets, make sure they are addictive free and 100 percent natural!

I’ve been reading up on using wood pellets and I am finding conflicting advice (even in old posts on this website). Some people say there are absolutely NO pellets that are safe to use for rabbit litter, and other say it’s perfectly fine? Also, does hard or soft make a difference? Any advice would be great! I’m in Canada too so this is totally relevant for me.

I just saw on the link BubblesJo provided, in the product information it actually specifically states it CAN be used for pet bedding. Great! I’m assuming this includes rabbits since it has been suggested by other members.

Hi Hazel, I was confused at first as to why wood pellets are fine to use whereas wood shavings are NOT. It’s because the aromas that are usually in wood (and wood shavings) are not present in the pellet version because the process of turning them into pellets removes these aromas which are harmful to a rabbit’s liver.

                  http://www.rabbit.org/journal/1/liver-disease.html

Also the petting zoo I’ve worked at for 10 years has been using wood fuel pellets for rabbit litter the entire time I’ve worked here, and none have had a death relating back to the litter used.

I actually used to get a brand here that came from BC, Canada. It was called Woody Pet and I thought it was really good.

I also use Canwick from Canadian Tire! Just make sure whatever brand you get contains no accelerants.

I top the wsp with a thin layer of Boxo (like Carefresh but much cheaper) just for softness on my buns’ feet.

I just purchased a 40lb bag of softwood pellets from Canadian Tire for 6 dollars yesterday. Unfortunately, upon placing them in her litter bin Hazel started eating them all. So now I have 40lbs of softwood pellets that I can’t use :'( I even mixed them with her old litter so she would know. But she nuzzled her head in looking for each pellet.

I am trying a new type of litter now, it’s essentially shredded cardboard. When I first put it in her box she ate a couple, then she stopped and only ate her hay. Hoping this works out better. It’s so unfortunate; the wood pellets are SO much cheaper.

That is too bad. My bunnies were not interested in eating the wood pellet. Would it make a difference if it is hardwood pellet? Canawick is hardwood. I also looked up Boxo as suggested by Mango, I have not tried it yet. It is available at walmart and price is pretty decent.
