My Rabbit Snikerdoodle, somehow broke his knee bone, he did not hit anything. I was in the room when it happened. It was so fast I am not sure what exactly happened. I think maybe he got startled by be coming up to feed him and the muscle contraction broke it.

He will have surgery tomorrow to pin it and then it will be in a splint for 6-8 weeks. Does anyone have any advice with dealing with a rabbit with a broken leg.

Make sure you restrict his motions during that time and give him something to do then. With our bridge bun, when he broke is leg, we spent a lot of time with him and would watch shows with him or talk to him so he was rarely alone. Since he had to go from free range of the kitchen to a much smaller space.

Make sure you keep an eye on the splint. Ideally, you have a rabbit-experienced vet who knows what to look for during checkups but things can happen fast. With ours, things went bad without us knowing and even the vet missed it. Our bun went from healing to the point he was hobbling around on his splint with relative deftness to trying to avoid using it at all, which we found out was because his broken leg had somehow gone dead, despite the bone healing. So if you see a change of condition, bring bun in immediately.

          Hope for a smooth recovery!

Thanks that is helpful, Yes I know is especially with rabbits things can happen in a instant. He already uses a dog crate, So I will just be using that. was looking at thing to use as a litter pan since he cannot move. I found a couple of ideas. I will probably move it to a place easier to be around him 24-7.

            Thank you.

So the surgery went okay, the one piece was very small, but they were able to reattach the tendons. They were not able to pin the pieces but the got them together.

He is back home, I put him in a little crate with a litter pan that literally take up the entire crate. But some cardboard around the wall which he like chewing.

He is in the room where I sleep and work. Luckily I work at home so I can watch him almost 24 7. He has been eating some hay, he really like the stalker stuff when not feeling well. No pellets or treats, just hay. He has been drinking a ton of water but that is typical for him.

Pain meds for at least a week.

                      Overall pretty good I think.
