So my bunny was spayed two weeks ago. She’s had a cone on through her entire recovery. Her stitches were taken out Wednesday as she made a full recovery. The vet told me to keep her cone on for a day or two more so her scabs could fully heal as well. I took off her cone today to see how she would react since most of her scab seemed to be gone and after a few mins she ripped the rest of the scabbing off. Is this normal? There is no opening on the incision but now there’s no scabs either so it’s just skin. Is this okay or should I call my vet tomorrow?

Dont let her rip it off. If she is still picking at it, i would put the cone back on her for another day or two. Opening the scab can invite infections or easy irritations. I would call the vet and ask for their advice just in case

Thank you! I did put the cone back on her. I called the vet and they said since she is fully healed her ripping the scabs off shouldn’t do much but irritate it. Ugh my poor bunny I hate that she has to have this cone on her forever. She is starting to lose a little hair in the back of her ears for some reason…

I wouldnt let her irritate it just yet. Maybe try to take it off in another day or two. I feel your pain, i had to have my youngest bun in a cone for about a week almost a month ago due to a scab on his toe he kept trying to bite at. For the back of her ears, you can try rubbing in a tiny bit of vaseline to help protect the skin from drying out. We ended up stapling a cut up sock around the edges of our cone to help with the ear rub as well
