My mini lop is 4 months old and was litter trained quickly. I admit we split her with treats (veg) when she first came to live with us but we always have her hay and she always ate it. Now she will eat some of it but leave the rest lying around her cage.We have a wooden toy we put hay in and she just pulls it all out. She is now also pooing all over her cage and a little in her litter tray. Is this connected. How do we get her back eating hay. We haven’t been giving her treats recently and she will eat some hay thanks

          Hi and welcome

If she has stopped eating all together it is very serious and you should not delay in getting her to a vets.

If she is eating treats and pellets fine, just not hay then she is not hungry enough to eat the hay on top of the other stuff. The treats and pellets should be cut down and you’ll see she’ll start to eat the ‘boring’ LOL hay again. The hay is very important as it is high in fibre and helps the transit through the digestive system.

Is she still pooping OK and weeing OK ?

Pooing outside the cage will be sortted when (if?) she is spayed.

It is highly recommended that girl bunnies are spayed as there is a VERY high risk of uterine cancer.

What else are you feeding her besides hay? Does she have other hard foods that she is eating such as pellets? If she is off hard foods completely, it could be a teeth issues. Is she eating anything at all?

Otherwise, if you have changed the type of hay or brand of hay that you are feeding it’s possible that she is fussy and doesn’t like the new hay.

The toileting issues are probably unrelated and likely just due to her teenage hormones kicking in. Hormonal rabbits tend not to have good litter habits but that’s a problem easily resolved by spaying.

Thanks everyone she is eating, drinking and pooing so not overly concerned she is still being fussy about her hay tho. She will eat some then leave the rest. I noticed every time we come through from the kitchen she jumps out so must be thinking she’s getting treats. We normally just give her some lettuce. We’ve to get her neutered next month do hopefully that sorts the toiletting out
