I have an 8 month-old male Holland lop who I’ve had for roughly 2 months. He’s not neutered yet, but he’s mostly litter-trained and has full run of my bedroom all the time. He often poops in his cage right outside the litter box, but he’s always been very good about peeing in the box. Last weekend, my boyfriend (who was around when I first got him, but hasn’t been here in about a month) visited and I forgot to clean his litter box one night. All of a sudden, the bun started pooping and peeing exclusively in this one spot outside of his cage. I don’t know what it is about this spot, or if this is related to forgetting to clean the litter box or my boyfriend visiting or both, but how do I get him to go back to using his box?

Probably not the boyfriend. Cleaning litterbox is a possibility, but I don’t find it very likely. Change it and see, though.

It may be accidental – I’ve heard of rabbits meaning to do it, but it just going out anyway. If it continues, try putting the litterbox over the spot and block off where the litterbox used to be, so he can’t push the litterbox around.

Also, try putting the droppings back in the litterbox to encourage going there. It works for litter training a rabbit, as well as promoting litter use.

I’d say hormones might have kicked in hard and he’s due for a snipsnip.
