Hi folks. I’ve read through lots of posts and not found the answer to my question, but seriously needing some advice. We are new bunny owners, we have 15 week old lion head. When I went to get him after work, there was a HUGE stool in his cage (like 2 inches in diameter). When I picked him up, his rectum was very swollen, but not prolapsed. I know this isn’t normal, but not sure what to do until we can get to a vet in the morning. I put some Vaseline on his anus after the swelling started going down, because it looked raw. We took out his food and are just giving him hay and water… Anything else we can do for tonight?

This post is for Buglady79. She posted this question in another thread and I’m starting a new thread for her so people will see it.

I’d keep an eye on his temperature – bunnies in pain or unwell can get hypothermic very quickly.

I’d also recommend half a tablet of baby aspirin but I don’t know the nature of his injury – is there any bleeding at all? It sounds like an incomplete anal prolapse due to impacting (straining with constipation). Push the water as much as you can. Poor little bug.

Get to the vet asap in the a.m. and I hope your little guy starts on the road to recovery (((healing and love)))

How is your bunny? Did you make it to the vet?

What was this poop? Regular or cecal? It does sound like a possible prolapse, which is very serious.

Another random thought – What color is your bunny? Is he broken?
