        Hello

I have a 5 month old female non-spayed rabbit (Lori) who is becoming a bit bored being alone in the house – she’s very affectionate, but has started to chew doors and skirting boards out of frustration, I think.

I’ve seen a male neutered rabbit up for adoption from my local shelter.

Lori is due to be spayed on the 10th of October. Would it be best to wait until she has recovered from the spaying to bond her with a new friend?

Given her spay is soon, it would be best to wait til maybe a month after, to give her time to heal. She may also go through a time post spay when her hormones go crazy before they settle down.

Many rabbits like to chew, whether they have bunny company or not. One of my girl rescues, Gina was a so and so for chewing and digging up the carpet. six months ago, I bonded her to a boy rescue, Podge. Gina stopped digging briefly, then taught Podge what to do, outcome was two chewers and diggers for the price of one

In other words, there are lots of good reasons for getting a single bunny a bunny friend, but if the main reason is to stop her chewing or digging, it may well not work, and you could double your problem!

            Completely agree.

Another consideration is false pregnancies. Bringing home another rabbit could trigger one in her. If that were the case, you would need to wait a little after that ended before she is spayed. They have increased bloodflow to the uterus during pregnancy AND false pregnancy. So surgery where theyre in increased blood flow is more risky.
