Hi! I have a small breed rabbit and was wondering if I could put his exercise pen (it would be covered) in my backyard and let him run around. We live in Florida and we get our grass treated by Wipeout Pests and Termites. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Probably not a good idea. I see the company uses Termidor. That’s fipronil (i.e. Frontline).

As LBJ said, putting a rabbit on treated grass is really a bad idea. Frontline/fipronil/termidor is actually exceedingly dangerous to bunnies, and can cause seizures and other major side effects. Keeping him inside would be the best bet. If you can find untreated grass, you can wash it and bring it in to him for a snack.

I was wondering about this too. Does this mean all the wild rabbits that unknowingly eat treated grass from people’s lawns get sick? =(

I’ve wondered about that too- the effect that weed/pest treatment has on wild bunnies. I’ve never noticed any rabbits with obvious symptoms after being on my neighbors’ lawn, although I know they treat their lawn. However, they would almost certainly hide if they were ill ? . I refuse to use anything on my lawn or garden, it’s not worth it to me.

As far as bringing rabbits outside, to me it’s just too risky. Obviously, a treated lawn is absolutely not safe, but even an untreated yard seems scary to me. Bugs, spiders, hawks, unexpected cats or dogs, poisonous plants…. Nope, I would be too much of a wreck to let my bunnies move, never mind graze and enjoy themselves! But that’s me, extremely neurotic and parinoid.

Thank You! I’ve decided to keep him inside which he seems very happy with!
