        Hi everyone.

I have read through many of these forums in the past but this is my first time posting so I’m sorry if this isn’t the right place for my question.

I have had my Ollie for over 2 years now and have recently come to terms with the fact that I cannot provide him with the proper care and attention he needs for his unique situation. Ollie has seizures in stressful situations which Did not start happening until this past year. They don’t happen often but when they do they are because he has been badly spooked by a loud unexpected noise. These seizures are really scary when they happen and he is exhausted Afterwords.

In this past year Ollie and I have gone through a lot of changes, the biggest being moving to Toronto. Here he is thought of as an exotic and it means his vet bills are beyond my means as I have recently started back at school for my masters.

I have reached out to rabbit rescue but they are at full capacity. At this point I am not sure where to turn and am looking for advice. I don’t want to give him to someone who is not rabbit savvy through an online post and the humane society is definitely a last resort.

His seizures would not be an issue if it wasn’t for my current living situation. I am living in a basement apartment and cannot control what noises come from outside my apartment. I think that because he also doesn’t have a lot of space or time to run around he has a lot of pent up energy which may be making his situation worse.

Do you guys have any suggestions for where I can look for a better home for my little buddy? He really is family to me and a sweet little thing, I just know that it would be selfish to keep him given the situation. I want him to have somewhere he can roam stress free and be given the time, love, and care he needs.

Did he start doing this before the move? I’m just wondering what the vet said initially. Epilepsy is rare and most often observed in BEW rabbits. Other seizures are caused by something else and, in many cases, can be treated.

I’m only asking this because I would hate for you to give him away, only to find out it was something easily treated.

He only started after the move. The vet said initially that some rabbits can just be spooked bad enough that they literally almost “scare themselves to death”. They didn’t think it was epilepsy and from what I’ve read actual epilepsy in rabbits is rare. As I’m in school most of the day he doesn’t have a lot of time to run around freely and I think this pent up energy is what’s causing him to spook so badly. I want to find him somewhere quiet where he can have free roam and be able to release any extra energy he has. He’s at home in the quiet all day and anytime we drop something or slam a cupboard he is just so on edge :/ I know there are medications for seizures but even checkups are expensive for me right now as vets in Toronto treat him as an exotic. Extra medication is just something I can’t afford right now.
