The other day I noticed my lop Charlotte has some dry flaky patches of skin down my her jaw (kind of behind her whiskers) on either side of her face. She hasn’t been digging or scratching at it, no excessive grooming, and she hasn’t acted out of place at all so i figured just keep an eye on it. Well I checked again last night and there’s now a small scab on one side. I called my vet first thing this morning to make an appt but the vet at our clinic who sees rabbits won’t be in for about 2 weeks. I don’t know if it is mites or not, there isn’t a lot of info online about mites on the face. Whether it’s mites or not… Anyone have any ideas of what to do until our vet is back in town?

The location is odd, otherwise it does sound like cheyletiella mites. It’s not always necessary to see a rabbit savvy vet to get a prescription for Revolution (selamectin). Mites are often difficult to catch in a scraping or tape-trst, so many vets choose to treat empirically on suspicion of mites. Revolution is bunny-safe.

2 weeks sound a little long to wait since there is a sore now. You can use plain neosporin cream on sores just to prevent a bacterial infection.

Thank you! I contacted the rescue shelter that I adopted her from to see what kind of vet services they offer and if it’s not something they can do there’s a mother vet in my area that the houserabbit society listed as a good rabbit savvy vet. Thank you for the input!
