Flooring!

Hi! I’m moving my two rabbits, officially bonded, into their own room. I wanted to have a type of linoleum or tile to put on the floor, as I have noticed Moo enjoys laying on the cool tile on warmer days in his old pen. As of now, the flooring is all carpet, and we cannot remove it all any time soon. Has anyone had this experience and if so, were you able to find a type of flooring that fits onto carpet? Is tile that only type that will remain cool during hot weather?

I would get a few heavy stone tiles and make a “cooling station” on top of the carpet in a corner. That way you don’t have to worry about covering the whole floor yet.

I would maybe look at vinyl tile (12inchx12inch) or vinyl sheets (6ft-12ft) (available at Lowes or Home Depot). Some of them are even stain-proof and/or waterproof. However, the adhesive is glue or peel-and-stick, and not designed to go over carpet. You would have to purchase a large piece of plywood/underlayment, lay that on top of the carpet, then simply stick on the vinyl sheet to the plywood. Just make sure your buns don’t chew off the edges of the vinyl sheet! Part of that problem can be resolved by not applying the vinyl sheet all the way to the edges; maybe leaving about 2-3 inches between the sheet and the edge.

I use the peel and stick vinyl tiles. I got them at Lowe’s for 98 cents for each 12×12 tile. I think they look really nice, and Remy loves them
