My 6 month old became a first time mum 3 days ago & lost all but 1 kit. She isnt nursing or feeding it so we pop the baby on the stomach for feeding twice a day until mum has enough. I just have one question though – the baby is having problems finding all the teats because she didnt pluck any of that hair off in that area.. so i am wondering is it possible to shave the stomach for easier access?? it goes to the same 2 teats and she is starting to get sore i think from over use of them two

        any help or suggestions appreciated

Can you see if she is lactating from the other teats?

Im not sure about shaving there, I think she would be very sensitive at the moment. You could lightly dampen the fur perhaps so the teats are less obscured. Baby rabbits find them by their sense of smell so she shouldn’t have too much of a problem. Maybe let the Mum stand upright and hold the baby in your hand under the teats. This would mimic the way they feed in the nest.

ETA: How long would you say the baby feeds for each time?  Take care it doesn’t over feed. Is the baby toileting by itself after a feed?
