Zeus is about 12 weeks old and I have worked on litter training him.  I didn’t put a whole lot of effort in to it.  His food is above his litter box and I made sure to put feces and wood chips that he has peed on into his litter box and he really seemed to get the hang of it.  I would let him roam around my room freely and wouldn’t find any poop or pee (minus one small accident) we went a month in my new room like that.  (I didn’t fully trust him yet to give him free range of my room so I lock his cage at night and when I leave.)  But now every time I let him roam free I find pee.  He has peed on my bed at least 3 times now and a couple times on my floor.  However, he doesn’t poop a whole lot. I find a piece every so often, but definitely find pee outside of is litter box more than poop.  HELP! I really don’t like leaving him locked up. I would be really nice to keep his cage open almost 24/7

It sounds like someone got a visit from the hormone fairy! Hehe! Seriously though, it sounds like territorial marking to me. Since he is only 12 weeks, this is may just the tip of the iceberg. His peeing may graduate to spraying, so keep that in mind. If his testicles have dropped, you can think about getting him neutered any time.

Thank you for your feedback. How do I know if it is hormones or if its just poor potty training on my behalf? He hasn’t starting humping anything yet, so other than this peeing problem I don’t know if I have any proof of hormones.  BTW this is my first time owning a rabbit so I am new to all of this!

I think it’s pretty safe to say that at his age, hormones are the likely culprits. You’ve done all the right things and a young bunny isn’t difficult to litter-train -they have a natural aptitude. But then puberty strikes and the hormones tells the body top priority is no longer hiding from predators but to mark territory with pee and poop and then get a girlfriend.

He has no option but to “obey” his hormones, of course.

Having him neutered is the best remedy. He’s still a bit young, but in principle a boy can be neutered as soon as his testicles drop.
