I have used oxbow hay twice before but the first time the hay was yellow and the second time it was really small strands! I love oxbows treats but the hay was to expensive to get for my 4 rescue rabbits and the quality wasn’t all that great and my rabbits just didn’t like it. I think the employees left it out on a shelf to long. but I have heard AMAZING reviews about oxbow and I love oxbow myself but has anybody else experienced this problem with their hay? has anybody ever used the oxbow vitamin supports I’m thinking about trying it out for one of my rabbits who occasionally needs some digestive support. so just wondering if the vitamin thingies worked well for you and your rabbit

I have never used oxbow before, but for the hay, was it shipped from far away? Did you get it from the store? Sometimes hay bags are not closed properly, and it dries out and goes yellow. Oxbow is a great company, but do not overfeed vitamins, and only give vitamins if vet says its ok.

I got it from the store and twice it turned yellow so I think I will just stick with my regular hay and the vitamins are just support like any rabbit can have them but I will be sure to check with my vet. thank you!

I have seen some bags of Oxbow hay at PetSmart that were yellow. Yellow hay doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s bad, though. I use several varieties of Oxbow hay, as well as American Pet Diner Timothy Gold, and right now I also have some Small Pet Select hay. I buy my Oxbow and APD from drsfostersmith.com. It’s always fresh and green, and I’ve never gotten any bags of Oxbow that were very small strands. Hay can be extremely variable, though, depending on the growing conditions, the time of year it was cut, and how long ago it was cut. The Small Pet Select hay that I just got, only cost me the shipping charge, and it is very long strand hay. A bit too long for my liking, because it’s kind of hard to manage the long stiff strands.

I used to give the Oxbow joint support tablets to two of my elderly bunnies. I now give the digestive tablets to my current bunnies, after both of them had a short bout of stasis. There have been several threads here with people asking if they really work or really help, and no one knows for sure, but most bunnies will enjoy them as a treat if nothing else. The joint tablets had ingredients in them (turmeric) that are known to reduce inflammation, so hopefully they did help. The digestive tablets have chicory root and ginger root, which are supposed to help with beneficial bacteria and GI tract mobility.

thank you so much! and I think the employees just left the hay on the shelf to long. and yes one of my rabbit gets digestive issues caused from her earlier life, she lived at a petting zoo that dumped her after she got to big for kids to hold but she was under 5 pounds! they didn’t feed her properly and she has issues now, everybody recommends to me the oxbow digestive tablets which I will look into. her digestive issues aren’t deadly just probably uncomfortable!

I love Oxbow for the most part but do get the odd bag that is a bit musty smelling or just seems off and my buns won’t eat it. Thankfully, my pet store has a guarantee that if your pet doesn’t it something, you can bring it back and exchange it.
