    • My baby bunny is about 16 weeks old and one of his ears as really drooped!! It still moves when he’s playing and he can put it next to the other when being held I just want to know if this is normal?? His brothers hasn’t dropped and I’ve checked inside the ear for any bruising or injury and he seems fine.

I know in dogs one ear up and one ear down can be genetic, or broken cartilage in the ear thats floppy. Im not sure if it is the same with buns ears or not. He could have part lop in his genetics, maybe?

Could he have some lop mixed in there?

I agree with LBJ10, mixed lop breeds will often develop a lop ear later than pure lop breeds, so 16 weeks sounds about right. As the skull grows, the crown is changing shape which will be what causes the ear to lop. It may or may not stay that way and the other one may or may not lop as well.

It’s also possible that the cartilage got broken – I’m sure that’s what happened to my Helli, his floopy ear looks nothing like a lop ear – and all the vets I asked sorta shrugged and were like, ‘nothing we can do, that’s just how he is.’ So if there’s no mites or anything treatable, I think you just have to wait and see!

Aaah sorry double post! But let me see if I can attach a photo so you can see what I mean by “not a lop ear.”
