We just lost our dear sweet boy Fritz this past Saturday. We are all heartbroken. And I’m having a very hard time with it. We thought his partner Penelope was doing ok until she had a bought of gi stasis today. She is doing fine now after a trip to the vets and some good home care. She is eating and pooping. But I’m left wondering… Will she be ok being the only pet in our home? I love bunnies so much but I don’t think we want to adopt another bunny after everything we have been through.

I am sorry for the loss of your sweet Fritz.

Personally, I think you are right not to bring a new bunny in on Penelope. I’m sure she misses him and I know animals experience grief. But, I think bonding would be very stressful on top of grief and the GI Stasis for Penelope.

A new bunny friend might be something you’re both ready for at a later time. And, you might find that Penelope is perfectly happy as a solo bun.

Thank you. I hope she does do well as a solo bunny. She is very smart and we are hoping to get her to spend more time with us since Fritz is gone. I just feel bad because my husband and I sometimes work long days. And I feel bad for her when we go to bed at night. I know I’ve been feeling very lost and lonely since Fritz’s passing even though I have her and my husband so I can only imagine how she must feel. But I’ve read that animals are better with dealing with loss than we are.

I’m sorry about the loss of Fritz. I hope that Penelope won’t have any more trouble with GI stasis, and that your love and companionship will be comforting to her.
