I think my new bunny has GI stasis. I believe he’s only 8 weeks old but it started as him having soft poop and I called the pet store and told me to give him pedialyte but I accidentally gave Bugs the flavored kind which contains sugar. I didn’t give him a lot, as soon as I found out I immediately gave him a lot of water and started him on Kale. Later on I realized his poop is way smaller than before. I immediately started giving him more kale that he won’t eat but he’ll eat everything else his hay and his daily diet food and water…. I lessened his daily diet food and put way more kale than that food and with his hay. He’s eating it more than he was before. Should I worry about his poop. They are significantly small. Hopefully this fiber diet works out well. I was also force feeding him water. So he can get the sugar out or whatever. Bugs has also been licking me everywhere. My stomach, arms, legs, chest. Anywhere! I don’t know if he’s grooming me or an underlying condition. He’s also laying on his stomach more. I left him in his cage for 12 hours while gone and came back and took him out. He didn’t play as much. When we first got him he was laying like this so I guess it’s a relaxing pose. He just wasn’t as active.

I wouldn’t continue with the kale. He’s really too young for vegetables, unless he’s been having them since when he was still with the mother.

Check out the diet recommendations under the BUNNY INFO tab at top of the page.

If he is still eating and pooing, he is not in stasis. It’s good that you have picked up on the changes in his poo. Hopefully the extra water will help. Have you offered a bowl?

What type of hay and daily diet food does he get?

Bunnies this age sometimes get a gut upset as their gut is changing and they may not have good gut flora fully established. So you need to be really careful with their diet. They also can show signs of intestinal parasites like coccidia or bacterial overgrowth in the gut. Resulting in the soft poos.

It’s a good idea to get a new pet checked out by a vet.
Have you found a vet yet with good rabbit knowledge?

He’s also laying on his stomach more

Does he seem comfortable? Or is he pressing his tummy downward and repositioning himself a lot?
