        Hi everyone,
I’m worried about my Netherlands dwarf Joey. He’s been acting normal, eating and drinking as usual. However, one of his sides seems to have a “bulge”. It’s not a lump, as it’s not mobile. It’s pretty rigid. When I massage his stomach, it feels doughy as normal, but that one side seems a bit more protruding. He’s neutered, and is running around as usual. It’s very strange. It’s near his ribs, and almost feels like it’s under the ribs but a bit towards his rump. It’s not very visible unless he’s on two legs reaching up. Any ideas?

I have a vet that’s really close, but I’ve never been there and idk if they have any bunny vets. Also, it’s weird but only one side has this sort of bump, not both. I thought about bloat in bunnies, but all the pictures I’ve found have the bunnies looking like balloons. Joey looks perfectly normal aside from the slight rigid protrusion from his side

How big is it? Could it be a hernia?

You can visit the vet and have a consultation without taking the bunny to a stressful trip. Take pictures and show them to the vet as you explain the problem.

Whenever I’ve taken a bunny to the vet for a check-up, he always gently palpates their stomach, abdomen areas.  One of the things I’m pretty sure he’s feeling for are tumors.  Actually, he did find at one time Bunny had a breast tumor.  It was pretty tiny.  He operated and removed the tumor and the one breast. It cost about $400.  I noted that Bunny had 7 breasts remaining…a potential liability of $2800!  She never had a re-occurrence.
