I read on here somewhere that corn shouldn’t be given. I buy feeder corn for a couple wild buns that show up every night in backyard, they absolutely love it. I’ve been giving a small handful of corn kernels to Velvet, and Zippy, and they just go nuts for it. Can they have a bit of corn? OR, do I need to quit this practice? Thanks in advance………………………………..

I’d stop feeding it to the buns, simply because IF sth were to happen, you’d be really angry with yourself for a long time after. Corn could potentially cause a blockage in the bunny intestines.

When I was new as a bunny owner, I fed my poor bunny a terrible bunny muesli that had corn in it. He loved that muesli. I didn’t know corn was considered potentially dangerous, and nothing bad happened to him (exept a stubborn case of poopy butt, but that’s not lethal) – but you never know with buns. Better safe than sorry and all that.

Thanks, I will. It MUST be fine for wild dudes though, I HOPE?

The problem with corn is that the casing of the kernels isn’t digestible, which means if they’re not chewing it properly, or eating too much of it, it can easily cause a blockage. Not so much a problem for bigger animals like ourselves, but for small little rabbits who only do poops a little bigger than a corn kernel, it can mean big trouble. Aside from that, corn is a high energy feed so you’re probably just fattening up the wild buns. I personally wouldn’t feed it at all.

The wild dudes could perhaps benefit from them in the winter. They need extra energy when it’s cold and when there’s snow on the ground they often have trouble finding food. That’s why they gnaw the bark off of rose bushes etc during snowy winters.

I don’t know if you could feed it to birds?

If you want to feed the wild buns sth yummy and healthy, whole oats would be a good choice.
