I got two new rabbits from RSPCA, since my other rabbit died back in Korea (of old age). They can kind of see and smell each other where they are kept, but not directly next to each other.

When I let the out to play on the lawn, I set up two separate pens around 3 m x 4 m each, they are next to each other and they always try to fight between the bars and Chan likes to bite more, while Bang just pushes and boxs’. When I put them together they just fight and don’t stop, I have to separate them, spraying water, loud noises, etc.

I’ve been trying to bond them for about 1/2 a year.

On the first meeting, Bang was exploring and looking around the neutral territory, Chan went up to him and always attacks him first, sometimes he just runs instead of attacking back, even though he is the male and a larger rabbit.

        Tips?

If youve been trying for about six months and theres been no success at all between them, then the bond wont work. Not all rabbits are going to get along

sounds like you might have found a pair that just don’t get along. the only thing I can think of would be completely separate them for a while. if they’ve been fighting for that long they may hold that grudge and remember each other even after a long period of time but its worth a shot. once they are separated you could also try the scent transfer toy idea. give them each a toy or blanket to lay on or with so it picks up their scent. periodically switch them so they get used to each other’s scent. But like mikey said-not all buns get along and usually 6 months is enough for them to at least tolerate each other. but I know you’ve got to try. I would separate them as much as you are able to- ideally separate rooms and clean the whole area so it becomes neutral again. but remember- they have both already decided they don’t like each other so if there is any chance of them forgetting that its going to take a lot of time. buns can hold grudges. I say give it one more shot at starting over and If it still doesn’t work then you’ve got to consider your options. of course rehoming a bun is never the ideal way to go but it will be up to you if you can handle having to keep them separate from each other at all times.

            PS- are they both spayed/neutered?
