So I just got my new bunny about 6 days ago. I’ve been trying to bond with him but he has no interest in me. He usually lets me pet him for a second then he will nude my hand out of the way. And once he even nipped me. I need help he’s about 14 weeks old. How do I bond wit him?? I’ve tried laying on the floor sitting on the floor giving him little healthy treats. He’s just not interested in me. He sniffed me once and then he didn’t stick around. I just need help please. He’s a holland lop. I know most bunnies don’t like to be picked up and cuddled and that’s fine with me. I just want him to like me. I though by now he would at least show interest. Another thing is I always have his cage open when I’m there and I usually sit near it he just walks by me. He’s litter trained already so that’s good. I don’t want to give up and I won’t so don’t worry. I just want him to like me and not be scared. Thanks -Jadyn

I’m new in the ‘rabbit’ world , but from what I’ve read so far, I think you need PATIENCE And every rabbit is different, has its unique personality so maybe yours take more time to accomodate…

Hi and welcome Theothebunny! Nivde is very right, patience is key when you’re dealing with rabbits. Rabbits are very different from puppy dogs and kittens. Rabbits are prey animals and need to be really really cautious of everything new -or they’ll end up as somebody’s dinner.
I’m quite sure your bunny doesn’t dislike you, it’s far more likely that he hasn’t learnt to trust you yet. 6 days is virtually nothing when it comes to gaining a bun’s trust.

What you are doing sounds fine to me. You just need to keep doing it. Bunnies are very curious animals, so I’m sure he’s very interested in you, but he’s playing it safe.

At 14 weeks he’s also about to enter puberty, and just like in humans, puberty is a physiologically tumultuous time.

Have you tried giving him food  [pellets / veggies(if already introduced to him)] from your hand?

I think some bunnies take longer to warm up. I think mostly all bunnies are really curious and inquisitive, so as long as you let him out and then act like you’re not paying attention to him, he will eventually come and check you out. Try to watch his body language and see if it is a good time for him to be pet, he will most likely let you know by lowering his head near your hand. But I think since the environment is still relatively new to him, he will be more interested in checking out all of his surroundings instead of chilling and hanging out with you. So just be patient, and I’m sure once he sees it is a safe environment and you’re cool, he’ll be more open to pets and affection
