I adopted a ten year old spayed bunny named Chubby and I’ve had her for about 5 months. She came bonded to a rabbit name Tiny who just passed away a month ago. When Tiny was alive Chubby did not seem to enjoy my company. She grunted at me and lunged whenever I would feed her or try to pet her. She would hop up to me and randomly bite me. Tiny was much more affectionate. After Tiny passed away Chubby got very angry for about a week and would throw things around my room. Now she’s much more affectionate with me and will lick me quite frequently and hop over and nudge me for pets! I’m wondering why when I reach my hand to pat her she’ll lunge at me and knock my hand down and trap it with her feet and start licking me. Tiny was a male but she was always asserting her dominance with him. Is she doing the same with me?

Seems that way! Although normally the dominant rabbit RECEIVES the affection :-/

This is rather typical of bunnies. They can lunge, even growl and box, the next moment they put their head down for pets. I think it means she doesn’t yet trust you fully, but she wants the kind of attention her bonded friend gave her.

I’d just pet her. Don’t approach her full on from the front, bunnies have very poor forward vision and can be startled/scared. When a bunny is looking right at you, it is looking from the side, just like deer (similar type of visual field).
