So there I was bopping away in the car today with my fave music on shuffle and thinking about BB.
I’m sure we’ ve all got favourite Celine Dion / Whitney / Bowie / Abba / Muse classics… that everyone else knows.
But I was hoping we could share links of music that maybe other BB members don’t know. Members from different corners of the world and different age groups could ‘introduce’ otherwise unknown artists to the rest of us by the joys of youtube.
Or simply your all time bestest, loveliest song that you can play a million times back to back and you absolutely MUST share with us
Music that makes you happy, sad, thoughtful.
Music that make you sing like a laughing donkey in the car when no-one else can hear or music that makes you absolutely HAVE to get up and dance !
I’ll start
CARO EMERALD – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFA6dEwWOb4
I discovered Caro Emerald simply because she was top of the overal sales on Amazon for a record time… so I bought the CD to see what all the fuss was about. a nice fresh change !
RODRIGUEZ ” Sugar Man” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6bjqdll7DI
A simply fabulous Oscar winning (2013) documentary film, true story of an american man who became as big as Elvis in South Africa, and didn’t know it until décades later… I came home directly from the cinema, went online and ordered his 2 CDs immediately.
LIKE A STORM https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=94DScnmq9Kc
Three multi-talented New Zealand brothers start a band and move to Vancouver, Canada to share their music with North America.
I discovered them……… because we’re friends.
CIVIL TWILIGHT https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9Wa7dFR09vU
Band hailing from South Africa.
I discovered these guys thanks to a kite-surfing friend last time I was in Kenya for the winter.
MALUMA https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ufa0K9w9z2c
This guy is Colombian and addictive if you like dance music or latin pop. Discovered him in my car when my friend’s iPhone finally decided to connect via bluetooth to my car stereo. lol
Vienna: Love the 40’s vibe of “That Man” – my favourite decade
Interesting, I’ve been thinking of doing a music thread! Good idea about links! I’ll get to some soon
Q8 – try Caro’s “Stuck” – that’ll get you moving too (I’ve just heard it in the car… )
Like a Storm – talented guys – not my kinda music but great potential
Civil Twilight – very haunting – a cross between Muse and Sam Smith !
Maluma- reminded me of my time in Sth america, music blaring out of all the minibuses…
In that case, I’ll plug in two of my favourite Portuguese bands
Deolinda: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qxv9s3PTIzY
They do what is considered “Neofado”. Fado is a typical Portuguese song type, and they infuse it other influences. And as bonus, the lead singer, Ana Bacalhau, also uses traditional clothes with a modern twist!
Anaquim: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6R5KDT0lcY
Portuguese bluegrass band with gorgeous lyrics that play on words and meanings. The name comes from one of band’s singers love of Star Wars!
I’m currently obsessed with an unreleased Ariana grande song
https://youtu.be/EE79a6FX4ec
I don’t listen to much music. I only really play it, but one of my favourite bands are “The Head and the Heart” weird name but good music. Or just listen to the Doctor who theme song! lol
Ooo, great thread!
I love the Caro Emerald’s song, so will go find that to download! Also like the 40s big band sound.
Anyone here know SingSingSing, a huge Benny Goodman hit from the 40s? (Too famous for this thread?)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2S1I_ien6A
Meanwhile, it reminded me of the Stray Cats Strut, a hit in the 80s: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEtbfzMLVWU
I also really like the Anaquim song. Need a translation, however.
Don’t know if any of my favorite sing alongs are too well known. I’m more of the historic (read ‘old’) bb member. With older brothers, I head a lot of 60s music,
An all time favorite of mine, a one-hit-wonder, the We Five: You Were On My Mind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-7QHWJOzbE
That they can’t even lip synch their own song is worth watching. LOL And let this keep going, because the Seekers’ song, I’ll Never Find Another You is a really good song, too.
(Folk music was transitioning into rock at that time. I was still in diapers, but I gradually inherited my brothers’ albums, from the Christy Minstrels to The Who.)
The New Christy Minstrels are the absolute best group for the end of the folk era. Not one of their hits, but definitely one of my favorites: Natural Man
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLz6GymJ7Nw
I have to add that I haven’t listened to these in a very long time. I’m on the lookout for new songs to like, but you wanted us to share goodies.
I have an eclectic taste in music but it somehow all comes down to Pink Floyd lol
However if we are talking about singalongs and less famous. I can give you this:
Within Temptation-Faster
https://youtu.be/9lNNYrlCeDI it’s something I like to listen when I’m running.
Two Steps from Hell-Children of the Sun
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bpxtuUQ28UM
A new song I got crazy about few days ago.
Btw. Listened to all of your suggestion and like most of them.
That Portuguese girl with band, viennas suggestion that sounds like swing bebop, and Q8s that starts with the guy on a piano. I can’t remember all their names as you can see lol. And can’t see your original comments so it had to be this way.
An amazing song you all should hear:
https://youtu.be/FR7wOGyAzpw
Oh my gosh guys, this is dangerous. My family and friends tell me that I am “Addicted” to music. I never stop listening to it and I almost am continuously singing (If I was blessed with a great voice I would be rich). I can’t wait to search up all of these and listen to them. And post links to the ones I love!
Pretty silly, but I’m loving the soundtrack from the Hamilton musical,
LEL No shame in musicals. I’m a huge fan! I’ve heard good things about Hamilton. Cld you post a link of your fave song from it.
I’m going to post links to lots of good songs in a bit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AclhwQKlgfw

I listen to much more music, I just can’t remember what they are called
I’m liking them all ! Reese – Head and hearts guy is gorgeous, could that have something to do with your liking them !!
RabbitPam – not a problem to post well known songs from a while back… bet the youngsters here don’t know them !!
Here’s one a friend introduced me to a year or so back and, again, I jumped and bought the CD… Karl Jenkins’ Adiemus…. it’s a made up language
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UX__4aHwYzM
My music taste is pretty all over the place, lol! =P Since I have a feeling I’ll be posting quite a few links, I’ll tell you which ones are important to listen to!! I’ll probably split them up into different artists/groups… IDK

Wow, Adiemus is really interesting!
Moxie – loving your choices – loving ’em…
That’s good because there’s more where that came from, lol!
Guys, I suggest taking a listen to Ariana Grande’s new album.
I love Ariana Grande
Here is a few songs:
DANGEROUS WOMAN: https://youtu.be/TFrMDGfW_Sg
BE ALRIGHT: https://youtu.be/eBAHqRnSgRw
LET ME LOVE YOU: https://youtu.be/xbiv2QHcGYU

INTO YOU: https://youtu.be/Q4KZaI_jtKs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNMms_zGbnI
This is a good song! (warning bad language, not in the song but in the video)
I like music with piano in it
I’ve been guiltily listening to this on repeat: “I’m Not Dead” by Boyinaband. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkfM-UK5BgM
It hits close to home for me.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R0u4ut64lOo
BEST song ever!!!!! Lol!
Reese – “Boppity Bunny” – hilarous !!! The buns are so chilled out and the singer has inhaled too much helium !! But made me smile !
Bunny Daddy – wow ! Does listening to that back-to-back help you or does it ‘bang the nail’ in harder?
I know what it would do to me if I listened to it too much…
I believe music can help and heal and influence moods (for the good or bad!!).
But I listened to his next song “Don’t go to school” and although I don’t agree with removing all that is useless out of the school system (because it builds other qualitities to become a rounded human being), I do SO agree in learning practical life skills !!!! Parenting, money management, FIRST AID !!! I cannot believe there is ANY good and acceptable argument against teadching first aid to kids as young as maternal age (when finger bleeding, lift it up in the air !! If someone sleeping (unconscious), roll them over on their front…) It’s sooo simple! Why why why !?
Lol I literally laughed out loud when you said the singer inhaled too much helium for some reason
Ok, so I’m 2/3 of the way through everyone else’s suggestions and loving them so far. And I’m not just saying that, some really cool sounds and I can see a lot of listening in my near future
I’ve compiled a rather not so short list as I think of things while listening. Prepared to become informed of some Aussie culture. Quite varied things.
First up from me is one of my aboslute favourite artists, Missy Higgins. I had a tough time picking just one song as a sample. I just love her work it’s simply gorgeous, her first albulm is still my favourite so I’ve linked you to a song from that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp3WOpo7Jus
My next suggestion is Powderfinger, quite well known, very popular (here at least, or used to be) and have many albums. Again I had a really hard time choosing a song because I love pretty much everything of theirs. A lot of people say all their music is too similar, but sometimes I like a band that sounds consistent throughout their albums. Plus Powderfinger are awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZeuWoIBuo8
Next is Ball Park Music, another favourite although their style is moving away from what I like with each successive album. But check out this awesome song, if I ever need a pick-me-up, this song is it. Simple truths. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSgz7Ept79o
Some more Aussie tunes with Wolfmother, hard rock this time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQPNredrDO0
Also Ben Lee: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HwD-fb7n4k
Some other awesome non-Aussie things.
Traditional South African choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, I love sketching to their music. It sounds silly but I primarily sketch African wildlife so it’s inspiration in a way. I came across them while searching for themed music for my Safari themed 21st birthday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOI5XNpD5wM
Eric Hutchinson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bm5TZX5hz3g
Everybody possibly knows Mr Mraz, but I have to include him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkHTsc9PU2A
One last one Just because if you don’t know of Ben Folds Five you’re missing out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wt5EHAqhR1c Very musically talented.
Although if we’re talking musicals. I have two all time favourites. The Lion King and Les Miserables. Here’s one of the best from each: Les Mis – Stars, this is such a huge song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urxk4mveLCw and why they ever cast Russel Crowe as Javert in the movie I will never know. He does not have the tone or power for it. And The Lion King, a musical very close to my heart – Endless Night https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLaChLkIY_g If you ever get a chance to see either of these musicals, go and do it. Especially The Lion King, it is a visual and audio feast. I’ve seen it three times and I’m still awed every single time.
Ok, go This is fun
I’m on 15min lunch break – I’ll save your post for later Az, lol !! Though, hear bloody hear for Russel Crowe !!! All I can say is he has a magician of an agent ! OK so he can sing, ish, but there are others out there that could have done “Stars” justice !!!!
Though Lion King has GOT to be Hakuna Matata for the most simple FEEL GOOD song !!! I challenge you to not tap you feet…. and laugh !!

Lol I literally laughed out loud when you said the singer inhaled too much helium for some reason
Reese – When you next have a helium balloon, undo it, have a little breath of it and then speak…. LOL
(and you’ll know what I mean )
Azerane, no The Cat Empire in your Aussie list? They’re pretty cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk7N3dhzM1o
I know, that’s why I laughed Vienna!

I thought I’d gone overboard already, lol. But yes, The Cat Empire are very cool So are John Butler Trio.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NihKdGqcz8
My favorite song right now, even though its like the #1 song on the radio. It’s great to make dances up to!
Also I’m still in love with Rihanna and eminem ~ The monster, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oN-_xotMdM0
Airplanes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTxt7rERzm8
Hall of fame
And then there’s this song but I forget what it’s called~ something like french eyes….. can’t find it on youtube, does anyone know it? Theres a line like and suddenly im in love with a stranger….. nevermind…. It plays everyonce and a while on the radio (pop stations) If something pops into ur mind, help me out here…. Thanks
Azerane: Pockets (by Powderfinger) has been one of my favourite songs since… I dunno… high school?
Great bands down under… Silverchair, Midnight Oil, and VIENNA! let’s not forget Russel Crowe’d own band (who are fantastic, and who sent me an autographed handwritten note and a shirt once) Thirty Odd Foot of Grunts (TOFOG) – check out the song The Legend of Barry Kable

I think it just helps me feel like I’m not so alone, like I’m not the only person who’s medications stopped working. I listen to songs that reflect my mood, but they never affect it badly. And the Don’t Go To School one, I agree with it a lot, but my school experience was horrible, which sucks, because I absolutely LOVE learning everything new, just now not I can’t do it in a classroom environment. I can see what you’re saying though. I only learned first aid and CPR this past year because I’m working with kids and it gives me more of a chance of getting hired. My money management skills are still absolutely horrible though.
On a different, less depressing note, this is my currently guilty pleasure. It changes every few days, I’m a huge music lover, I never judge when it comes to what I listen to, which is always drastically different genres.

I can’t work out whether you’re joking or not…. I have just looked at Barry Kable, awful – and I even gave them the benefit of the doubt and zapped onto 2 or 3 more songs… OMG, he sings like a dad would in the shower and NOT one that should be having success! One wonders how much his stardom has anything to do with their “success” (1.000 hits on youtube!!! yeah!) – I would say like 95% !!!
I obviously offended some RC fans… no posts since !! LOL
So I’m starting off my own little duets post as I think these are the most powerful duets :
I can’t think of a double male duet (exc opera) that makes my hairs stand up like 2 powerful women belting out together !!
Whitney and Mariah live – “When you believe”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKaXY4IdZ40
Babs and Celine – “Tell Him” – it starts off slow but there’s a fab crescendo finishing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB_vjpRhLxM
And one from one of my first loves and all time fave musicals “Miss Saigon” – (PLEASE DON’T DOUBT ME ELLEN!!) LOL
Lea Salonga (fabbbb!!) and Ellen’s character, the with ending long note (that I try at VERY high volume in the car to hold all the way through) – today I drove for 9 hours and I played this one 5 times in a row to get it right and the actions and the theatrical effect…. that last note is one of THE best in musical theatre imho.
I’ve just watched it on youtube quietly (lodger is in the kitchen, I don’t want to get carried away!!) and it doesn’t have the same tingly effect I usually have –
So just turn it up, be patient for the end and listen to the sad sad story !!

Enjoy !
Slavsia Rus from Arkona, Arkona is a Russian folk metal band. Folk whatnow???
Well, imagine walking up to a big hairy metaldude on the street and asking him: “What do you do for a living?”.
He answers: “I play in a metal band.”.
You go: “That’s so awesome, what do you play?”
He answers: “The flute!” \m/. .\m/
Metal is known for experimentation, and this has created several fusion genres. Folk metal is a genre which combines metal with traditional folk melodies, themes and instruments. I love meeting new cultures like this, it’s like a world journey where you also pick up a fair bit of history.
This a very ear-friendly song by Arkona, it’s a metal ballad using traditional Russian instruments and also sung in Russian:
They mostly have rougher songs of course, in which the female singer does excellent metal grunts.
If you like the genre, try our own national favourites Heidevolk. Their singing is mostly clean, for the people who are put off by the grunts in metal this may be nice.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBpDom4QWHE
This song Nehalennia is the story of a group of traders who asks the goddess Nehalennia for fair winds and prosperity on their journey. Nehalennia was a pagan goddess worshipped in the Netherlands.
I remembered the name of the one song Fresh Eyes by andy grammar
Here’s a fun one – from the film Juno – a toe tapping “feel good” song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQESZszV0Sg
I know I have an odd music taste lol. No judgy judgy
FOREST (the chorus and the rapping part are the best parts of the song)- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaeqBjsgBj4
CANCER (cover) (a touching song…The original by MCR is just as good)— https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yw6i1SAHetc
MAMA SAID (I like this one’s message…)— https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMIaDhXDt-M
I don’t know how mainstream Jack Savoretti is, but I’ve had this song on repeat since first hearing it.
The live version is better than the studio, I think.
Jack Savoretti- Broken Glass (Mahogany Sessions)
I know Ray LaMontagne is mainstream, but this is a beautiful song and one of my favorites.
I’m listening to Turisas – The March of the Varangian Guard
Turisas is a folk metal band: they mix folk music, choirs, film music, metal and loads of history into an epic mix. They have made an excellent concept album “The Varangian Way” which tells about the travels of a group of Vikings who travel the Varangian route through Russia to Constantinople. On their next album is a song “The March of the Varangian Guard”. Vikings were very popular as guards in Constantinople because of their impressive height and fighting prowess.
And this is the concept album:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Xkvm89nCDY
Ellie, I’ve no idea what I just listened to, but it was pretty darn amazing
Hehehe, folk metal has that effect on people
WTF, metal with violins, choirs and accordeons? Eh, I think I need a glass of mead with this…
Sadly the album that contains March of the Varangian guard is their first step on their descent into pop music. This album was received as “meh”by their fans, the next album after as “NO”. But their first Battle metal was very well received and their second album The Varangian Way is a milestone in the genre.
Today it’s Royal Republic:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOGqJV9jKVM
Ellie….. Wow…. Lol
Ax – I dont have access to the link…..
I like this band called “The Postal Service”, I think some people here might enjoy their music
OK here is what I’m listening to, its by me, I’m a DJ, this was my first track.

“A Bar in Amsterdam” – Kazenjammer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kbdCDeKSoI
